Mr John Fleming

Mr Fleming started his teaching career at Greenbrook Primary (Epping) in 1977.  During his tenure as Assistant Principal and then Principal at Bellfield Primary (Heidelberg), the school became well known for its innovative curriculum in literacy and numeracy under his leadership.  The school won several awards for its curriculum delivery and improvement in student academic performance.  Among these were National Quality Schools Awards in 2000 and 2003 for teaching excellence.  In 2003 Mr Fleming was a member of the Minister for Education's School Improvement Leadership Group, which assisted in the development of the Blueprint for Education in Victoria.  Mr Fleming was a guest speaker at Parliament House in December 2005 for the launch of the National Inquiry into Literacy.  In 2006 Mr Fleming was awarded the Bruce Wicking Award and the National Literacy and Numeracy Special Achievement Award. He was appointed to run the Berwick Campus in 2006 and now manages the School’s literacy and numeracy program in Junior School.  Mr Fleming also consults with schools across Australia for the Haileybury Institute.  In 2014 he was appointed to the Federal Government's Ministerial Advisory Group to review teacher training in Australia.
