Welcome from the Principal

Haileybury is acclaimed as a great school.

This stems from a relentless focus on quality teaching combined with a 21st century culture of innovation and entrepreneurship, which has resulted in remarkable student outcomes.

Haileybury’s program in Melbourne includes the highly successful Parallel Education Model, outstanding teachers, small class sizes, an unmatched level of individual attention, outstanding academic results, an international focus unrivalled by any Australian school, and 125 years of history.

Haileybury has high expectations for its students and provides them with the support needed to achieve academically.

In the Junior School, Haileybury’s results on national testing place us in the top 1% of schools in Australia. In the Senior School, Haileybury is a leader in the delivery of the VCE. In 2016, 45% of Haileybury students were in the top 10% in the country and 68% of students were in the top 20%. Five students received the highest possible ATAR of 99.95, and 33 perfect Study Scores of 50 were achieved in 14 different subjects.

We believe that graduating students should have strong core academic skills, a broad analytical thinking ability and be capable of operating in a rapidly changing world.

At Haileybury, we develop core literacy and numeracy skills through the use of explicit instruction learning in the junior years. In the middle years, a combination of explicit instruction and student-centred learning is used to broaden analytical thinking and problem solving.

Our exciting Year 9 Program develops independence and resilience. The three-year VCE in the senior years, coupled with a wide range of subject choices, ensures there are programs to suit all students’ interests and abilities.

Our academic programs are enhanced by Haileybury’s commitment to a strong social education program that fulfils potential, supports individual resilience and develops personal character values, including a commitment to lifelong learning. We believe in the principles of social justice.

Haileybury is a leader in secondary school engagement with China through the delivery of programs that are beneficial for Chinese and Australian students.

Haileybury’s China campus, on the outskirts of Beijing, provides opportunities for students from Melbourne to spend time in a boarding school environment in China. Similarly, Haileybury’s Chinese students have the opportunity to spend time in Melbourne. Haileybury also delivers the VCE in Timor-Leste and the Philippines.

The opening of Haileybury Rendall School Darwin in 2018 will see quality education delivered in the Northern Territory. The program will be adjusted to best suit the Darwin education environment. Opportunities for engagement across the Haileybury community will be significant for all Haileybury students and staff in Melbourne and the Northern Territory.

Haileybury’s international programs, the development of Haileybury City (Melbourne’s first vertical school) and the opening of Haileybury Rendall School Darwin are examples of Haileybury’s entrepreneurial spirit, which is part of the culture of our acclaimed institution.

At Haileybury, schooling should be enjoyable and every student matters every day. We look forward to showing you our School—it is one of the great schools of the Asia-Pacific region and an institution of which we are very proud.
