EARLY LEARNING CENTRE
Mothers Day Ball
Princes and princesses celebrated Mothers Day in the form of a Royal
Ball, in the ELC this year. The energy
and excitement was electrifying in John Twist Hall on Tuesday evening, with
over 150 guests in attendance. This
special event, embraced by the ELC community, will provide many wonderful
memories for mother and child for years to come.
Physical Activity – Cross Country
Physical activity is vital for a child's development and lays the
foundation for a healthy and active life. The Haileybury Early Learning Centre program
encourages children to learn new and various skills, while staff also aim to
increase their overall fitness level.
On Friday, 22 May, our Pre-Prep students will open the Junior School
Cross Country event. Our PE teacher Mrs
Sherritt has begun training with the ELC children on the track on which they
will run during physical education classes. While wise strategies are provided, such as run at a steady pace, many
children can't resist the temptation to burst out of the blocks.
Reception students will be cheering on their ELC friends from the
grandstand. Parents and grandparents are
also most welcome to support and cheer our Pre-Prep students on at this
event. ELC Staff will be on the track
providing encouragement along the way. Don't
forget the camera!
Our Year 3
students are busy preparing for the NAPLAN (National Assessment Program in
Literacy and Numeracy) tests which will take place nationally on 12-14
May. Our Haileybury curriculum is
designed to ensure that our students are well equipped for the assessments as
we aim for it to be a supportive, non-threatening experience. Our students should participate with
confidence and be ready to 'show off' their skills in Literacy and
Numeracy. We wish our Year 3 students
well for their first formal NAPLAN tests.
Junior School Cross Country
We extend an
invitation to all Junior School families to join us for our annual Cross Country
event to be held on Friday, 22 May, from 2.00 pm. All Junior School students will participate
in an event where the emphasis is on increasing their own fitness levels and
personal best times.
A warm thank you to all
the mothers and special friends who joined us for our Middle School Breakfast
this morning. It was a large success and
the students really enjoyed spending some quality time and performing for you
throughout the morning.
From 12-14 May,
NAPLAN testing will be completed by our Years 5 and 7 students. All other classes and homework for the week
will be as normal.
On Friday, 15 May,
the Year 8 Semester 1 Drama students will be showcasing what they have been
learning in their classes at Drama Assembly. This will take place in John Twist Hall from 8.50
We wish our Aerobics teams
well as they travel to Geelong over the weekend of the 16 and 17May,
to compete in the aerobics preliminary finals.
