Haileybury Students Top the State in Premier’s VCE Awards

Haileybury has topped the state in the 2016 Premier's VCE Awards presented by Deputy Premier and Education Minister James Merlino today.

Haileybury received a record 15 awards going to 12 students across 10 subjects. This remarkable achievement was the result of the extraordinary hard work of the students, the exceptional professionalism of the teaching staff, and the great support of families.

Cherie Han and Jack Li each received the coveted All Round High Achiever Award, which is given to students who attained a study score of 46 and above in five of their VCE subjects, placing them in the top two percent of students completing each subject. Cherie also received the Premier's VCE Award for English and for French. Jack received an additional award for Specialist Mathematics.

The subject awards are given to the top 10 students in English, and the top five students in most other subjects. Fewer awards are given in subjects with small numbers enrolled across the state.

Principal Derek Scott said, “It was a great thrill to see the Haileybury students receive their Premier's VCE Awards from the Deputy Premier”.

He added: “All of the staff at Haileybury know how much hard work and effort goes into such high academic achievement. I congratulate the award winners and the teachers and parents. It has been a wonderful combined effort”.

Leading the state in the Premier's VCE Awards caps an excellent 2016 academic year, and confirms Haileybury's position as one of Australia's foremost academic schools.
