Haileybury's Tartan Talent

The Haileybury Pipes and Drums took out the top spot at the 2017 Scots Day Out held last weekend.

The competition saw over 3,000 visitors flock to Bendigo’s CBD as bagpipes bellowed throughout the streets along with a sea of tartan.

Over 40 students from the Haileybury Pipes and Drums and Haileybury Development Band travelled to Bendigo to compete for the fourth time in the annual event.

Regardless of the soaring temperatures, the students were very excited to showcase their hard work that they have put into their new repertoire - they weren't going to let the heat stop them.

Haileybury won the Grade 4 all age division in a near clean sweep of 1st across the board. Haileybury Pipes and Drums also won the juvenile event with the Haileybury Development Band following with a close second.

The Deputy Director of Pipes and Drums, Lincoln Hilton, expressed that overall the band have never played so well.

“It’s an exciting time because the Haileybury Pipes and Drums has never been bigger or better than what it currently is this year.”

“We will be going full force into the next competition and the state championships looking to defend our juvenile title!”
