Lunar New Year!

The highly anticipated Haileybury Lunar New Year Festival was a marvelous event that fulfilled all expectations.

Over 48 hours, the Keysborough campus transformed from a school yard and staff car park into a vibrant street market, two decked out entertainment hubs and a thrilling carnival.

The campus was buzzing with over 4,000 excited guests filling the School. With everything from dumplings and twisty potatoes, to cuisine specialties, the Street Market offered a variety of Asian inspired meals, snacks and delicious dessert options for everyone to enjoy.

The entertainment in both the Quadrangle and on the Main Stage offered something for everyone with acts including traditional Asian practices such as Kung Fu, Tai Chi, Bollywood, Taekwondo, not to mention our very own Haileybury international students who shared their talents. Throughout the Street Market the crowd loved getting a special surprises made for them by the balloon artists, and getting their picture taken with the Chinese stilt walker who towered high above the crowd.

The Festival finished with a bang! The Chinese drummers captivated audiences and brought the crowd into the Main Stage, who were then followed by an impressive taekwondo display which included broken tiles and wooden board being snapped in a split second. The finale featured the mesmerising lion dancers that roved from the Street Market into the Main Stage to finish.

Haileybury would like to thank everyone that was involved with this special event and we look forward to welcoming everyone to the next Lunar Festival in 2019.
