Small classes in the Junior School enable the strong focus on core literacy and numeracy skills to have the optimum effect.
In the middle years, small classes enable individual attention to be given to students as they further develop their analytical thinking and reasoning skills.
In the Senior School (Years 9–12), small classes combined with a breadth of subject choices enable students to develop their skills through regular feedback during class and with coursework, and be thoroughly prepared for examinations.
Despite record enrolments and waiting lists, Haileybury has the following indicative class sizes:
Early Learning Centre
Reception and Pre-Prep
Preparatory to Year 4
Years 10–12 (VCE)
- Where numbers exceed indicative sizes because of unforeseen factors, additional staffing may be provided
- Tolerance: two students for all classes
- Council may vary policy if government funding arrangements or educational strategies change
- The City campus has a tolerance of four students per class
