Campus News

Greetings From Castlefield

Welcome to the 2022 school year and a warm welcome to the new students and families joining us. Staff have prepared the grounds and learning spaces for the first day on Thursday, 27 January 2022, and they look splendid.

We are optimistic that this year will begin as close to normal as possible and we are planning activities and events in line with the current coronavirus restrictions. Information about student arrival on the first day is available on the myHaileybury app, under myNews.

New Student Afternoon

Students in Years 1 to 8 starting with us for the first time this week will have received an invitation to our New Student Afternoon. We encourage new students to come along on Tuesday, 25 January, at 3.30 pm to familiarise themselves with the layout of the School, their classroom and teachers before their first day.

Early Learning Centre

Welcome to the ELC

Wominjeka—welcome. We are very much looking forward to greeting new and existing families and to beginning our 2022 learning journey together. We have created beautiful, stimulating learning environments for the children to spark a sense of excitement, joy and belonging and to support each child to be a capable, confident and competent learner.

Haileybury ELC App

As well as the whole-school myHaileybury app, please download the Haileybury ELC app before the term begins. This is our main communication tool and provides updates on ELC events and class curriculum and opportunities to share the magical moments that your child experiences in the ELC.

Entry Security Code

Please look out for information sent to all ELC families advising the new security code to enter the centre for Semester One. Child safety is our priority, so we ask that this code is only used by the parent or carer and that you please discourage your child from using the code.

Information Sessions

We look forward to welcoming Reception and Pre-Prep parents to our information sessions. They are a fabulous opportunity for parents and educators to discuss ELC and classroom matters, curriculum content and to answer your questions. Information about the sessions will be available via myHaileybury.

Junior School

Ready to Go!

Junior School staff have been busily preparing classrooms and the curriculum and are raring to go! Please label all school uniform items and your child’s lunchbox and drink bottle. At the end of last year, 48 unnamed items could not be returned to their owners!

Remember our SunSmart policy and ensure your child has their Haileybury sun hat ready for Day 1. We encourage you to apply sunscreen in the morning and throw an easy-to-use roll-on into your child’s bag so they can re-apply throughout the day.

On Up Day, teachers sent home book covers and instructions so booklist items are ready to go on Day 1. If you have misplaced these covers please ask your child’s Homeroom Teacher for replacements.

New Faces

Castlefield Junior School is unique in that one-third of families join us in Prep from outside our ELC. If you are a current family, please help make our new students and families feel welcome. There are numerous students joining us across the year levels and we know their classmates will look after them.

We’re thrilled to have several exceptional teachers joining the team as well. Mrs Kim Mears moves from Year 5 to Year 4 with the addition of Mr Matt Allen in Terms 1 and 2, and Miss Nicole Bussell. Mrs Jaime Regnier comes into Year 3, Miss Morgan Price is in Year 2, Mr Mitchell Hodgson is in Year 1 and Miss Alannah Rowell rounds out the Prep team.

A big welcome to all our new faces.

House Spirit

All our students belong to one of four Houses that are like an extended family outside the homeroom. We look forward to inducting our 2022 House Leaders early in the term who will host assemblies, run recess and lunchtime clubs and help manage Junior School events.

One such event was the House Athletics in Term 4. A wonderful time was had by all and Jackson came home the victors!

Middle School

New Term 1 Beginnings

In the Middle School, we are eagerly awaiting the return of our students and teachers. Our students will start their year with a two-day Induction where they will be immersed in the life of a Castlefield student. Existing and new students will come together for two days of classroom connections, Library, assembly, House activities, Sport and the Arts.

These days ensure that by Week 2 students feel settled in their new class and are familiar with the campus. Students are also introduced to our culture of learning and understand their important place and role within our community.

We so look forward to Term 1 and welcoming back our wonderful—and hopefully well-rested—students.
