Hockey Australia Selection

Oliver Thompson (Year 11) has been named in the Hockey Australia U18 Futures Squad. He will be one of the selected athletes taking part in a six-part program that includes advice and support on individual athlete performance planning, online technical and tactical sessions, managing a dual career, mental health and wellbeing. Oliver will also join a training camp in Canberra in October.

Athletics Australia National Success

At the start of this month, Sydney hosted the Athletics Australia National Championships. Our Haileybury contingent of ten athletes and two OHA athletes competed in more than 25 events over nine days of intense competition.

The results were impressive with the team winning five gold medals, two silver medals, three bronze medals and three World Junior qualifying performances.

Congratulations to all our athletes and in particular to Amy Bunnage (Year 12) and Luke Gough (Year 11) whose efforts are hopefully enough to earn them Junior World Champ and Oceanic team representative spots.

Diving In

Ashlee Arendse (Year 11) and Blake Connors (Year 11) won gold and bronze medals respectively at the recent National Diving Championships. This was a particularly challenging event for Blake as a training mishap in the week preceding the event prevented him from training until the day of the Championships.

Cycling for Australia

Dylan Proctor-Parker (Year 12) has been extremely busy over the last couple of weeks. He has competed in no less than three major cycling events in Brisbane: the Australian National Track Championships, Oceania Track Championships, and the Oceania Road Championships. He achieved outstanding results in all three events.

The highlight of Dylan’s busy schedule was being selected to represent Australia, and wearing the Australian jersey, to race the Team Pursuit at the Oceania Track Champs and beating New Zealand to take gold.

Dylan is now in a good position for Australian U19 selection for the World Track Championships in Tel Aviv in August. We wish Dylan all the best.

A String of Pool Successes

Campbell Wilson-Moran (Year 9) recently competed in the Australian 2022 Age Swimming Championships in Adelaide. Campbell achieved a gold medal for the 200-metre backstroke, a bronze medal in the 100-metre backstroke, fourth in the 50-metre backstroke, fourth in the 800-metre freestyle, fifth in the 400-metre freestyle, and seventh in the 14/15-year-old Club 4 x 50-metre freestyle relay.

Haileybury was the fastest for the Victorian teams for this event and fourth in the Victorian state relay 13/14-year-old division.
