GENERAL NEWS
From a personal perspective, I would
like to thank the staff, students and families of Edrington for welcoming me
into their School community during the short time that I have acted as Head of
Campus. Before this term, Edrington was
the only Haileybury site on which I had not worked and I am truly thankful for
the chance to spend some time within it. Edrington is a warm and welcoming place and I
now know, from first-hand experience, why it produces so many fine
Haileyburians.
Interim Reports
This week you will have received your child's latest
report, which is designed to give you an accurate picture of the level at which
she/he is currently operating.
In terms of Junior School reports, please be aware
that the outcomes and benchmarks become increasingly more challenging as the
year progresses; therefore, you will notice that your child's grades may
fluctuate from interim to interim. If
you need clarification in any area, please make a time to see your child's
teacher.
Within the Middle School, the new
reporting system has been modified to better replicate the distribution and
ranking system utilised in Senior School for VCE students. Each student has received a grade from A+ to E
that is obtained from a weighted aggregate of all coursework assessment items
conducted so far this year. The grade
reflects a comparative ranking for each child against all other students in the
same year at the Edrington Campus. There
have been some changes in the levels at which these letter grades have been
allocated in comparison to previous years. If you have any concerns about your child's
progress or would like further clarification, please feel free to contact your
son or daughter's Head of Middle School.
EARLY LEARNING CENTRE
Social Justice Event – Breakfast in our PJ's
The ELC ran a Social Justice fundraising
event on the final Tuesday of term, which saw all children and staff arrive for
breakfast in their pyjamas. All funds
raised from this event went to the charity organisation SecondBite. Edrington ELC families kindly donated in
excess of $700, which will help put fresh food on the plates of children and
families in need. Thank you to all
families for your kind and generous donations.

Year 3 and Pre-Prep Buddy Program
Early in Term 3, a Buddy Program
will be introduced, which involves children in Pre-Prep being partnered with
students from Year 3, with the aim of providing a smooth transition into Junior
School for our ELC students. The program
is also designed to promote a sense of community and belonging for the ELC
students within Haileybury. Year 3
students benefit by having the opportunity to develop leadership skills and
learn the importance of being a good role model, while also practising how to
build relationships.
JUNIOR SCHOOL
It has been an
eventful term for our Junior School students with a strong focus on the
delivery of our academic program coupled with a wide range of co-curricular
activities. We hope all families have a
restful three-week break and return to School ready for Term 3. Please take the time over the break to ensure
that your child has their full winter uniform, including a blazer and
beret/cap.
Year 3 Intensive
Swimming Program
The Year 3 students
will commence their Intensive Swimming Program on Wednesday, 15 July. This program includes six one-hour lessons,
which have been scheduled in the first two weeks of the term.
Junior School Presentation Assembly
Congratulations to all
students who were presented with awards in recognition of their outstanding
achievements.
MIDDLE SCHOOL
Middle School students celebrated
the final day of Semester 1 with a service at Keysborough's David Bradshaw
Chapel and a Whole School Assembly in the John Twist Hall. These occasions gave students the chance to both
celebrate and reflect upon their achievements thus far and to look forward to a
productive and busy Semester 2.
Congratulations to Year 7 students Valini and Anisha Goorha who have been accepted into the 2015 Stanford Pre-Collegiate Summer
Institutes Middle School Program at Stanford University in San
Francisco. Anisha will complete the
Physical Science course and Valini will
complete the Creative Writing course. This
is a wonderful opportunity and fits perfectly into Haileybury's desire to
produce young people who are not only academically successful but also engaged
globally.
Within today's Whole School Assembly,
the entire cast of Seussical Jnr.
presented an item from the upcoming Middle School production, a musical based
on the works of Dr Seuss. Both cast and
set design crew have been working tirelessly with the Art, Music and Drama
staff throughout Term 2 to ensure that we present a colourful and entertaining
production. We warmly invite all of our
Edrington community to come along and support our students on 5, and 6 August. Tickets can be purchased through Trybooking.
Just a final reminder that Monday,
13 July, is a student-free day. Classes
will resume on Tuesday, 14 July.

Clover Cottage
Thank
you to the School community and local businesses who ensured our annual P&F
lunch at Clover Cottage was such a success.
A big thank you to Chantelle Baxter from the charity, One Girl, who
shared her own story with us and told us about the wonderful work that One Girl
does to help educate girls in Sierra Leon and Nigeria. With our help and that of the HMA, we will be
helping three girls to go to school and receive an education.
