GENERAL NEWS
Welcome to Term 2; a term when we
have a strong emphasis on academic rigour and when we also officially launch our
Social Justice initiatives for 2015.
On Wednesday, 15 April, we have a Football
Clinic for our Years 3-6 students where several members of the premiership-winning
Hawthorn Football Team will be coming out to run an exciting morning of
activities. To celebrate this event, we
will hold an Egg and Bacon BBQ Breakfast on the Main Oval from 8.00 am. Students and parents from any year level are
welcome to come and purchase breakfast and have a casual kick of the football
before classes commence on that day. All
profits will go towards the Children's Cancer Centre Foundation. The clinic for our Years 3-6 students will
commence at 9.00 am.
The inaugural Haileybury Rubik's
Cube Championship commences on Friday, 17 April, when we search for the
Edrington Rubik's Cube Champion to represent our campus at the whole-School event
the following week.
This year is a very special ANZAC Day,
marking the 100th anniversary of the ANZAC landings at Gallipoli. All of our students will be involved in
special services at School during that week, and we will also have a group of
students march on ANZAC Day in the local service.
Parent-Teacher Interviews for all
year levels will be held in Week 2 of this term. Bookings can be made via go2.
EARLY LEARNING CENTRE
Literacy
In the ELC we believe in, and
support children in, being exposed to, and developing, a sound literacy
foundation prior to school entry. Many
families relish the ELC Program for the literacy component as it agrees with
their own personal beliefs and goals for their children. Recently, ELC educators reviewed the Literacy
Program and refined the term's objectives across all centres. Opportunities to discuss the Term 2 Literacy Program
and any other element of the ELC curriculum will be part of Parent-Teacher Interviews,
which will be held on Thursday, 23 April.
Parent-Teacher Interviews
Parent-Teacher Interviews are an
excellent opportunity for you as parents to discuss with educators the progress
your child has made, set new goals that we can work on together, and share
stories about your child's learning.
Individual forms will be distributed during the week of interviews and
we ask parents to complete these prior to their interview. Educators value these meetings as it is part
of building a strong partnership between home and School. Please feel welcome to make an alternative
time with your child's teacher should you require it. Bookings can be made on go2.
JUNIOR SCHOOL
Cyclone Pam Donation Drive
A massive thank you is extended to all Junior School families for their
donations to our Cyclone Pam donation drive.
On the last day of Term 1, all donations were collected and have been
shipped to Vanuatu to those affected. A
special mention must go to our Social Justice Captains, Grishma Boppana and Sam
Nielsen, who assisted Mrs Georgia Fabien with this initiative.
Years 3-6 Football Clinic
Please remember that
on Wednesday, 15 April, students in Years 3 to 6 will be involved in a Football
Clinic. Students in Years 3 to 6 are
permitted to wear their football colours to School on this day. The clinic will begin at 8.45 am and will
involve games, skills and drills. Please
note that Year 4 students will also have their swimming lessons afterwards, so
will need to remember their swimming bags too.
Junior School Fitness Club
This term we will
continue our Junior School Fitness Club.
We were thrilled with the attendance at these sessions last term and
encourage all students to attend when possible.
The aim of Fitness Club is to promote a healthy and active lifestyle among
our younger students while attempting to improve their overall fitness and
skills. Sessions will continue in the
Sports Hall and on the front oval each Tuesday and Thursday morning from 7.45 am.
MIDDLE SCHOOL
A big term is ahead for our Middle
School as NAPLAN and exams are on the horizon. The Years 5/6 boys and girls start the term
with a Football Clinic on Wednesday, 15April – there will be some
Hawthorn players in attendance! Years 7
and 8 are welcome to have a kick with their parents before School but must then
head to class.
On
Monday, 20 April, Family Life will run an incursion for the Year 8 boys and
girls on sexual health. The following
day, Tuesday, 21 April, the
Middle School will be attending a special ANZAC Day service at Keysborough to
commemorate the 100th year since the soldiers landed at Gallipoli.
Parent-Teacher Interviews will be
held on Tuesday, 21, and Thursday, 23 April, in the John Twist Hall. The booking process for interviews will be open
to parents on Monday, 13 April, via go2.
The Narre Warren Lions Club and
Beyond Blue have combined forces with a project called 'joining hands'. This is to help raise awareness of anxiety and
depression and to help remove the stigma of those suffering. This is particularly pertinent to our boys'
Social Justice cause, Youth Beyond Blue. On Thursday, 23 April, they are holding an
open community event with Tony Wind, a guest speaker from Beyond Blue. This will be held at Casey Council Chambers,
Narre Warren at 7.00 pm.
Good luck to the Dance and Aerobics
teams who are performing their routines at the Frankston Arts Centre on Tuesday,
21 April, as the opening to their competition season.
