Rehearsals Begin!

It might have been our first week back but rehearsals began in earnest for the Senior School musical, Matilda: The Musical, featuring more than 70 students from across our Melbourne campuses.

Director Mr Nick Waxman, Musical Director Mr Robert Latham and alumni choreographers Ms Teri Batis and Ms Cassie Peele, led the first COVIDSsafe rehearsal. The cast did a read-through of the hilarious, Tony Award-winning Australian production and even learned some moves for the opening number. It was a delight to be in the rehearsal room to see this incredible show start to come to life.

The Senior Play, These Bridges, and our City Play, Book of Everything, begin rehearsals this weekend.

The cast of Matilda bring the opening song, Miracle, to life.

Just enough space! The Matilda cast fill Aikman Hall for the first read-through.

Making Sweet Music in 2022

The first full week back at school saw rehearsals begin in earnest. Involvement in an ensemble is fundamental to learning a musical instrument at Haileybury. Through weekly rehearsals, students practice their advancing skills together and focused group rehearsals in preparation for a concert event allow students to showcase their developing talents to an appreciative audience.

Punctual attendance at rehearsals and instrumental lessons is crucial and when a student must miss a rehearsal or instrumental lesson, could parents please ensure that relevant Music staff are informed.

This year, more than 800 students will enjoy individual instrumental music lessons on a weekly basis and will participate in one or more of the 50-plus ensembles available at Haileybury. It is heartening to know that our broader school community acknowledges the value of music within a balanced and refined education.

First Concert for 2022

Our first performance at Senior School, Twilight Concert, will be held on Thursday, 17 March. A relaxed outdoor event, it will take place in the Senior School Quadrangle in front of Wings Café at Senior School Keysborough. The concert begins at 5.30 pm and will end at approximately 7.00 pm. Light refreshments will be provided.

Congratulations Lila Ni

Congratulations to Lila Ni (Year 12) who has been selected to exhibit her VET: Creative and Digital Media final at the Top Designs 2022 Exhibition.

VCE VET Creative and Digital Media students produce digital works that encompass web development, games and multimedia design, content writing, audio, film and video, photography, static design and animation. The works selected for Top Designs demonstrate a range of capabilities—from traditional creative skills to use of the latest technology and concepts.

As part of her portfolio, Lila had to produce a 45-second movie trailer based on a fairy tale or novel. After some extensive planning that involved creating a press release, research documents and storyboards, Lila produced a stunning 2D animation inspired by Little Red Riding Hood. Each frame was beautifully drawn using digital methods and was brought to life using Adobe Animate, striking title sequences, original sounds and special effects.

Well done and good luck with the Exhibition, Lila.

Top Designs 2022 opens on Friday, 1 April, at Melbourne Museum.
