Vision
To be recognised as one of the world's greatest and most progressive sport and activity programs.
Mission
To foster a lifelong love of sport and physical activity; through outstanding experiences that attract, inspire and retain students; fostering a pride in representing the tradition of the Bloods and Hearts.
At Haileybury, we recognise the physical and psychological benefits of sport with a comprehensive and inclusive program that offers something for everyone. Our program also nurtures the talents of students with the potential to succeed at the highest level.
Health and Physical Education are part of our curriculum from the Early Learning Centre to Year 9. All students participate in intraschool House sport and interschool sport, with training and coaching provided. This includes a Learn-to-Swim program.
Catering for all interests and abilities
Our Sport program promotes participation in healthy activities and provides suitable opportunities for students of all abilities.
We offer more than 30 sports across many disciplines, covering everything from football, cricket and athletics to golf, netball, softball, aerobics, touch and volleyball.
Boys play interschool sport with other Associated Public Schools (APS) from Years 5–12 and girls with the combined Associated Public Schools and Associated Grammar Schools (APS/AGSV). Each Saturday students participate in various sports.
A program for every student
At Haileybury, sport is a proud and mandatory part of school life, and it always will be. But we also know that every student connects with sport in their own way. With this in mind, we have identified five different student ‘personas’ that identify how a student might like to engage in the Haileybury Sports program.
The Aspiring Star
Those that have a genuine (and realistic) ambition of a career playing sport at an elite level. For them, sport is a passion, a pathway, and a pursuit of excellence.
The Team Player
The classic sports competitor who thrives on the camaraderie of team sport. The Magenta of the ‘Bloods’ and ‘Hearts’ pumps through their veins and they revel in traditional sports environments. They're reliable and committed, and the result from Saturday morning sport can really shape their weekend.
The Wellness Seekers
These are lifestyle-focused, active individuals. For them, participation in the sports program is about overall wellbeing. Outside of school, they might run, swim or hit the gym. They join a social group like Park Run in order to be both healthy and connected. Competition isn’t necessarily a driver for them, but they are no less passionate about the activities that they choose to participate in.
The Social Set
The casual players who love a kick in the backyard, a social game, or just being part of the action with mates. Sport is not about winning or losing, but fun, safety, and friendships matter most. They actually quite enjoy trialling different sports, but at this point in their sporting journey, it is just about having a laugh, so modified formats that make it easy to play for the first time are extremely appealing.
Still Finding My Thing
These students haven’t quite stumbled across a sport or activity that has really captured them yet and currently have little interest in sport at Haileybury other than because it is mandatory.

Outstanding mentors
Regardless of their ability, Haileybury students receive outstanding coaching from mentors, including former AFL/AFLW footballers, elite-level netballers, international representative badminton players, national-level table tennis coaches, first-class cricketers, Olympians and international athletes. Our students have every opportunity to succeed, but understand that there is more to sport than winning. Most schools are results driven, but we focus on the person: Values + Character = Results. Having the right people modelling values, character and skills achieves great results naturally.
Sporting success
Since we won our first cricket premiership in 1898 and our first football grand final in 1920, Haileybury students have won countless sporting honours. Other notable high achievers include Australian cricketer James Pattinson, Olympians Amy Lawton and Laetisha Scanlan, Formula 1 driver Oscar Piastri, and AFL and AFLW stars Jack Gunston, Andrew Brayshaw, Alice Burke and Isabella Eddey.
