Redefining what’s possible – Amica’s story
When Amica received the Haileybury Foundation’s Robin Fildes Scholarship in Year 9, she gained access to a world of opportunity. What followed was far more than academic success or participation in school life. It was a journey that reshaped her understanding of what was possible.
Reflecting on her years at Haileybury, Amica describes the experience as life changing. Before arriving, she believed she had already embraced every opportunity available to her. Haileybury challenged that perception. Through an extraordinary breadth of academic, sporting and co-curricular experiences, she discovered that opportunity is not simply about access; it is about having the confidence to explore new pathways, take risks and pursue ambitions that once seemed beyond reach.
Throughout her time at Haileybury, Amica immersed herself in every aspect of school life. Whether competing in sport, participating in clubs and activities, or embracing leadership opportunities, she approached each experience with curiosity and determination. One of the most influential experiences was her involvement in the Duke of Edinburgh program. Over four years, the program helped her develop resilience, independence and a strong sense of purpose, while also creating friendships that continue today. What began as a decision inspired by a Year 9 assembly became one of the defining chapters of her school journey.
Haileybury also provided Amica with opportunities to break new ground. She became the first female student to play in an APS Firsts futsal team, demonstrating the confidence and ambition that flourished during her years at the School. More importantly, she developed a mindset focused on growth, perseverance and striving for excellence, and these qualities continue to guide her today.
Equally significant was the sense of belonging she found within the Haileybury community. The friendships, encouragement and support she experienced helped create an environment where she felt empowered to challenge herself and pursue her goals. It is this combination of opportunity and community that she believes makes Haileybury so special.
Since graduating in 2025, Amica has continued to build on the foundation established through her scholarship. While studying at Monash University, she balances her academic pursuits with coaching, tutoring and professional work. She has also signed her first professional football contract, won a state futsal championship and will soon take the next exciting step in her journey by moving to the United States on academic and sporting scholarships.
Amica’s story is a powerful reminder of the lasting impact of donor generosity. Through the support of the Haileybury Foundation community, students are given the opportunity not only to access an exceptional education, but to discover their potential, expand their horizons and pursue futures they may never have imagined. The ripple effect of that investment extends far beyond the classroom, shaping confident, capable young people who will go on to make a meaningful contribution to their communities and the world.
