An evening at Sofitel

The Haileybury College Year 12 Formal took place on the last evening of Term 1 at the Sofitel Melbourne. The event is always a social highlight for the students and a little bit of rain certainly didn’t dampen spirits.

Overseen by the Haileybury College, Heads of House and members of the Senior School leadership team, the students enjoyed dinner and dancing in the ballroom, with photos taken with their peers and teachers throughout the evening.

It was a wonderful opportunity for Year 12 students to celebrate the end of their first term and to temporarily put aside the academic rigors of the past couple of months. Instead, the special friendships and camaraderie forged throughout their final year came to the fore. It was a fantastic way to begin the break and to have some fun as a cohort.

Well done to our Student Representative Council

Students in Years 9, 10 and 11 have been named as members of the 2023 Student Representative Council (SRC) for their respective year levels.

I would like to heartily congratulate those who put themselves forward for leadership positions and who were elected by their peers.

Haileybury offers many opportunities for student leadership and supports those in leadership positions to work together to make our School a wonderful place.

Subject selection

The subject selection process will begin in Term 2 for students in Years 9, 10 and 11. Our upcoming Year 10 (2024) Information Video for all Pre-Senior parents and students will be released on Tuesday, 2 May via our myHaileybury app.

The Subject Expo will be held on Tuesday, 23 May and details of this event will follow. Parents and students will be able to access material that will help them make good subject choices.

It may also be helpful to visit VTAC (the centralised admissions centre for most undergraduate university and TAFE courses) and the VCAA (the body that sets guidelines for what students from Prep to Year 12 learn in Victorian schools).

Please remember that you can always make an appointment with one of our Careers advisors if you have any questions. Your child’s Head of House or relevant Head of Pre-Senior can help you make these appointments.

Easter at Edrington

Armed with bags of Easter eggs and delicious treats, Edrington held its annual Easter Egg Stall on Tuesday, 28 and Wednesday, 29 March. The baked goods and chocolate were a hit with Edrington raising over $1,800 for their charity, One Girl.

Sholto Black Annual Charity Downball Tournament

On Friday, 24 March, Sholto Black held their 13th Annual Charity Downball Tournament in the Berwick Boys Pre-Senior quadrangle. A BBQ and free dress day were also part of the event.

Berwick students from Years 9–12 took part during lunchtime and raised over $800 for Beyond Blue.

The Grand Final match pitted Johnathan Llerena (Year 11) against Callen Brydon (Year 9) and, in a nailbiter, Jonathan prevailed. A great time was had by all for the sake of a good cause.

Business at the Yakult factory

Business Management Units 3 and 4 students visited the Yakult factory to apply their classroom theory to a real business.

Students saw how an automated production line works in real time, witnessed computer aided manufacturing capable of producing 33,000 bottles of Yakult per hour and learned why quality control is so important to a product. They also discovered more about how a business applies Corporate Social Responsibility in many aspects of their manufacturing.

Duke of Edinburgh’s Award

Congratulations to Thomas Battye (Year 10) on receiving his Duke of Edinburgh Bronze level award.

Term 2 reminder

A reminder that students wear winter uniform in Term 2. However, we have two weeks at the beginning of the term when students may continue to wear their summer uniform.
