Haileybury students continue to excel on the representative, national and international stage

One of the great joys of being involved in Haileybury Sport is seeing students pursue opportunities beyond the School and achieve success on some of the biggest sporting stages available to young athletes. In recent weeks, Haileybury students have represented the APS, Victoria and Australia across a diverse range of sports, demonstrating the dedication, resilience and pursuit of excellence that are hallmarks of our sporting program.

Haileybury students selected for APS Representative Teams

The annual APS v AGSV Representative Matches were recently held at Caulfield Grammar School, Wheelers Hill, bringing together the best student athletes from across both associations. The event represents the pinnacle of APS team sport and provides selected students with the opportunity to compete alongside, and against, some of Victoria’s most talented school-aged athletes. Haileybury was proudly represented in badminton, basketball, cross country, football, hockey, netball and soccer.

APS teams enjoyed a successful day, recording six wins and one draw across the 12 representative fixtures contested. Victories were recorded in boys’ badminton, boys’ cross country, girls’ football, boys’ hockey, netball and girls’ soccer, while the boys’ soccer fixture ended in a draw.

The event showcased the outstanding quality of competition across both associations and highlighted the strength of APS sport. Looking ahead, APS schools are exploring ways to further enhance the representative program, including opportunities to formally recognise outstanding individual performances alongside team success.

Dance

Our dancers enjoyed exceptional success at the 2026 TFT Dance Star National Championships in Queensland. Impressively, all 120 members of the Haileybury Dance Squad qualified for the national event, a remarkable achievement that highlights the strength and depth of the program. Across team and individual performances, Haileybury students claimed 19 medals, including 14 National Championship titles.

The results reflected not only the immense talent of our dancers but also the culture of commitment, teamwork and support that continues to underpin the success of the Haileybury Dance program. Each year, this team performs exceptionally well on the national stage, making a strong case for being the most successful Haileybury team of the 2000s. A topic for future debate, perhaps?

Volleyball

Jonathan played a leading role in the School Sport Victoria Under 15 Boys Volleyball team, serving as co-captain as the team claimed a silver medal at the Australian Schools Volleyball Championships. His outstanding performances throughout the tournament saw him selected in the School Sport Australia All Australian Team, an honour reserved for the championship's most outstanding players. Capping off an exceptional year, Jonathan was also selected in the Victorian team for the upcoming Australian Youth Volleyball Championships. These achievements reflect not only Jonathan's talent and leadership but also the strength of Haileybury's volleyball program in developing athletes capable of excelling on the national stage.

Fencing

Robert (Year 8) produced an outstanding performance while representing Victoria at the Australian Youth and Cadet Fencing Championships in Sydney. Competing against the country's best young fencers, Robert claimed two gold medals, winning both the Youth Men's Foil individual event and the Cadet Men's Foil team competition. He also added a bronze medal in the Youth Men's Foil team event, capping off a remarkable championship campaign.

Lacrosse

Zara earned selection in the Victorian Under 15 Girls Fire Lacrosse Team, which will compete at the national championships in Queensland later this year. State team selection is a significant achievement and a testament to the hard work, commitment and skill she has demonstrated throughout her lacrosse journey. Zara's selection places her among the state's most talented young players and is a well-deserved recognition of her dedication to the sport.

Taekwondo

Sisters Isla and Asha proudly represented Australia at the 2026 China Taekwondo Championships. Competing against strong international opposition, Isla secured a silver medal while Asha claimed a bronze medal. Representing Australia is an honour in itself, and both students demonstrated outstanding determination, skill and composure throughout the competition. Their success on the international stage is a testament to their dedication and commitment to the sport.

Congratulations to all these students on their outstanding achievements. Whether representing Haileybury, the APS, Victoria or Australia, they continue to demonstrate the rewards of hard work, perseverance and a commitment to excellence. Their success is a source of great pride for the entire Haileybury community.

A thank you to Scott Pendlebury

As this edition goes to print, we would also like to acknowledge and thank Scott Pendlebury for his contribution to Haileybury Football. While much has been written about Scott's move to the Gold Coast as he prepares for the next chapter of his career, both as a player and a coach, we are grateful that Haileybury has been a small part of that journey.

Scott's involvement in our football program has provided invaluable learning opportunities for both students and staff. His role at Haileybury formed part of a deliberate plan to "test the waters" of coaching, and we could not be more appreciative that he chose Haileybury for that opportunity.

We sincerely thank both Scott and the Collingwood Football Club for their support of Haileybury Sport and wish Scott and his family every success and happiness in this exciting new chapter.
