Melbourne Cup Holiday
I remind all families that Monday, 5 November, is a Student-Free Day. Therefore, students will not be required at school on this day. Of course, Tuesday, 6 November, is the Melbourne Cup holiday.
Remembrance Day Commemoration
I take this opportunity to inform our School community of a special event. On the morning of Friday, 9 November, we will commemorate Remembrance Day.
This School ceremony will involve all students from our campus and I welcome parents to attend. A special invitation will make its way home in the coming weeks.
Back to Brighton
We recently farewelled our graduating Year 12 Brighton class with a special final assembly at Castlefield. Our Prep students decorated ties and our Year 4 Leaders presented these to the students.
As a school and as a staff, it is with tremendous pride that we contribute to our students’ growth, development, achievements, success and accomplishments. We are excited to help celebrate the graduates’ lives at Haileybury.
Keeping the Community Safe
In the interests of our students’ safety, I would ask that you assist me in two important matters for our school.
First, whenever entering or departing from a School gate, please ensure you close it behind you. Second, please consider our neighbours’ property and the road rules when collecting your child/ren from Villeroy and Rouen Streets.
I thank you for your support in these important matters.
Spring Concert Time
The combined Middle School large music ensembles will perform the Spring Concert in Aikman Hall on Thursday. This concert builds on work undertaken at the recent Middle School Music Camp at Marysville.
Up to 400 students are expected to perform on the Aikman stage. It is exciting that the program has grown so significantly in recent times, and this will be a fantastic concert experience for our young musicians.
You and your family are warmly invited to attend. Coffee and tea will be available outside the foyer before the concert from 6.15 pm. Please join us for light refreshments afterwards in Wings Café. This is a great opportunity to catch up with other parents as well as Music staff and hear another of our jazz combos perform.
Date: Thursday, 25 October
Time: 7.00 pm (tea and coffee served from 6.15 pm)
Location: Aikman Hall, Keysborough
Early Learning Centre
ELC Parent Survey
The Department of Education and Training invites families to complete a short survey about all Early Learning Services. We are very pleased to offer this to our families across four Haileybury Early Learning Centres.
Feedback from families allows us to reflect upon our practices and continue to deliver a high-quality program. Results of this survey are anonymous. Please find a pamphlet in your communication box or use the link provided here.
Pre-Prep Transition Statements
Educators are working on the upcoming Transition Learning and Development Statements. This document summarises your child’s learning and development and identifies her/his individual approaches to learning, abilities, and interests. It also indicates how your child can be supported to continue learning as she/he enters the next year level.
These documents are passed onto her/his 2019 teacher, which helps with getting to know the child and to plan appropriate learning and teaching programs.
Parents will be invited to contribute and add ideas as the information shared between parents, ELC and the School provides the best possible beginning to the next phase of your child’s learning journey.
Families will also receive a copy of this document in their child’s Learning Journals at the end of the year.
The Seasons Change
As we welcome the change that spring brings, with the blossom trees around Bayside flowering, and the warmer sunshine in East Quad of a morning, we are reminded that the end of the year is approaching. Prep Orientation is in full swing and we are enjoying welcoming Prep 2019 children into our school on each of these special mornings.
We have also begun the ‘Moving into Middle School’ process of preparing our Year 3 students to become the leaders of our school.
ICAS Academic Excellence Awards
Our philosophy of ‘Care, Learn, Play’ drives all that we do in Junior School and we are so proud of all our children’s achievements this year. Our students were awarded their ICAS High Distinctions and Distinctions at assembly last Friday. We are proud of our academic excellence and congratulate the worthy winners.
We work so hard to partner with parents and prepare the next generation of Haileybury girls and boys for a successful life.
NASA Educational Tour
A ragtag band of 53 students and staff from four Haileybury campuses met at Tullamarine Airport early on a Saturday morning. Fourteen days later they returned, as a family—a single, galvanised unit that through sheer hard work, determination and a positive belief in themselves and their team, overcame the challenges and obstacles placed in front of them.
This is the story of the Haileybury NASA Educational Tour.
‘There is no I in team’ is a common saying in Australia. The American equivalent is, ‘failure is not an option’. As two cultures collided it became clear that the two sayings needed to co-exist. In fact, after three days of astronaut training, the skillsets most needed in every simulation, challenge and scenario were teamwork and communication.
Speaking with the students, NASA astronauts at the Kennedy Space Centre who flew on board the Space Shuttle all delivered the same message—regardless of your personal attainment of excellence, no team means no ride into space.
There were many highlights, hilarious moments and wonderful learning opportunities on this STEM tour. We are indeed fortunate to be able to experience the space industry firsthand.
By far the loudest noise emanating from each space laboratory, propulsion unit, simulation and launch pad was not the deafening roar of engines and rocket fuel, but the call for TEAMWORK and COMMUNICATION.

Ticket sales are limited to 750 and the raffle will be drawn on Carnival Day at 8.15 pm. The lucky winner will drive away in a BRAND NEW CAR. Tickets are available here.
Thank you to Optus for its generosity in offering an iPhone XS as one of the prizes for our $2 raffle. Tickets are available via the office or in the Carnival pack.
