The Physical Education department has a wonderful timetable of events for Active April, starting with Soccer Fun on the oval at 8.00 am on the first day of Term 2, Tuesday, 17 April.
We look forward to seeing many students joining two weeks of activity and physical challenge to start the term in a healthy way.
Mothers Day Stall
Students are encouraged to begin saving for the Mothers Day Stall on Thursday, 10 May, where they can purchase a gift for their mothers and special friends.
I thank the HPFC for organising the event and look forward to seeing many of our mums at the much-anticipated HPFC annual Mothers Day Luncheon at Sandringham Yacht Club on Friday, 11 May. Our guest presenter is Carita Farrer Spencer.
Early Learning Centre
Social Thinking is a flexible teaching framework that can help individuals enhance and improve thinking abilities in social awareness, emotional intelligence and behaviour self-regulation.
This will evolve over the year as we continue to incorporate social thinking concepts into everyday practice, such as:
- Thoughts and Feelings: The ability to think about others, play collaboratively and establish friendships is all about thoughts—knowing our own, sharing them and considering the thoughts of others as we act and react.
- Following the Group Plan: The ‘group plan’ can help children know what they are expected to think about and do as part of a group. When everyone is following the plan, we are all thinking about each other and everyone feels good.
- Whole Body Listening: Children are asked to be fully attentive with their whole body (brain, heart, eyes, ears, hand, feet and mouth). This helps your brain gather and make sense of information, and shows others you are thinking about them.
It has been wonderful to observe the ELC children grasp these concepts and further develop their identity and wellbeing.
Easter Bunny Hunt
Our ELC community gathering was a lovely way to finish Term 1, especially with the secret visit from the Easter Bunny. The children’s excitement and joy was really special. Thanks to those who joined our celebration.
Care, Learn, Play
Junior School students are living their ‘Care, Learn, Play’ philosophy by collecting Coles vouchers to support Haileybury Rendall School boarders, who need new weekend Sport equipment.
Thank you to all our families who have contributed. The collection box is simply overflowing.
Coin Trail Fundraiser
Students from ELC to Year 8 laid lots of coins on the Coin Trail to raise money for the Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday Appeal. Our Junior School was a wonderful riot of colour!
Girls Middle School ‘Love’ Assembly
Our Girls Middle School philosophy is based around our School Song’s words: Live, Love, Learn and Laugh. We recently celebrated ‘love’ by embracing life outside our comfort zone.
Haileybury Girls College Captain Jessica Abraham (Year 12) and Girls Middle School Captain Victoria Paitaridis (Year 8) inspired with talks about making the most of every opportunity—and stepping outside of their comfort zone.
Miss Jacqueline Gough shared a video that had everyone gasping in awe as she completed an extreme 216-metre bungy jump from Bloukrans River in Tsitsikamma, South Africa. Victoria summed up the empowerment message beautifully:
“The next time an opportunity comes for you to step out of your comfort zone, instead of immediately saying no, try saying yes, because you never know where that could take you—and the chances are it'll be great.”—Victoria Paitaridis (Year 8).
Winter is Almost Here
Winter uniform and winter season sport will soon be upon us. All boys should have a clean towel in their Sport bag and carry a waterproof slicker and tracksuit pants at all times. Spare undergarments and socks are also advised. These can be left in a snap-lock bag in their locker when not in the sport bag.
Our Personal Best
Term 2 is about building upon routines established in Term 1, and working hard to get the best out of ourselves.
Years 7 and 8 students will work towards their semester assessments, while the expectations of Years 5 and 6 students will gradually increase. With a positive, hard-working and determined attitude we can all strive for improvement.
