The latest Premier’s VCE Awards, which celebrate top-performing students across the state who excel in their VCE studies, have recognised 26 young people from Haileybury.
The Haileybury students have been acknowledged for their outstanding achievements in the 2025 Victorian Certificate of Education.
Four students – Dikkumburage Dinith Premaratne (OH 2025), Clarence Antonmeryl (OH 2025), Vinay Raghavan (OH 2025) and Lucinda Poole (OH 2025) received Top All-Round VCE High Achiever awards. This award recognises students who achieve study scores of 46 or higher out of 50 in at least five VCE subjects.
Haileybury students from the School’s campuses across Melbourne, from Haileybury Rendall School in Darwin, and from Haileybury Tianjin in China received awards for Accounting, Chinese First Language, Chinese Second Language, Chinese Second Language Advanced, English, General Mathematics, Geography, Hungarian, Latin, Music Contemporary Performance, Music Performance (VCE VET), Music Sound Production (VCE VET), Philosophy, Physics, Politics, Sociology, Tamil and Visual Communication Design.
The 2025 Premier’s VCE Awards were presented on Tuesday, 21 July during a special ceremony at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre.
Haileybury CEO|Principal, Derek Scott, says he is constantly impressed by the efforts and achievements of the School’s VCE students, and the teachers and families who support them.
“We are very proud of every student who completes their VCE journey at Haileybury. VCE is challenging and it requires commitment, hard work and a persistence to reach the finishing line. Each year, our students step up and achieve some very impressive results in a broad range of subjects that help set them up for their future,” says Mr Scott.
“Along the way, they are supported by Haileybury’s dedicated, passionate and brilliant teachers who support every student to achieve their best every day.
“Of course, also key to the successes that we are celebrating today are our families who provide steadfast encouragement to each young person as they navigate their studies. Each award presented to our students today is richly deserved.”
Dikkumburage Dinith Premaratne (OH 2025) received a Top All-Round VCE High Achiever Award. He also received a perfect ATAR of 99.95 and four perfect study scores of 50, and is now studying a Bachelor of Science at the University of Melbourne. Dinith received a Melbourne Chancellor’s Scholarship that recognises outstanding academic achievement during Year 12.
“I never dreamed I’d end up here, but VCE showed me that when you work – not just hard, but smart – almost nothing is out of reach,” he says.
“I set myself a goal, committed to it and proved to myself that I could persevere through harder days, trials and setbacks. That belief in my own ability to keep going is probably the most valuable thing I’ve taken away from my VCE journey.”
In terms of advice for current and future VCE students, Dinith recommends they choose subjects they enjoy and are passionate about.
“You’ll be more engaged and will actually enjoy Year 12, and you’ll remember material far better because when you’re truly interested, the information sticks. My other tip is to never leave a classroom not understanding something, because small gaps in knowledge have a way of becoming big gaps.
“Finally, remember that VCE isn’t a lone game and collaboration is crucial. Collaborating with someone else or in a small study group is one of the most powerful things you can do.”
