CEO | Principal's Report

Haileybury students have finished the year in style with outstanding academic results, great respect shown for each other and their teachers and school, wonderful musical performances at the Celebration of Excellence events, wonderful sporting participation and achievements and, importantly, they seemed to have a lot of fun.

I have attended the six Celebration of Excellence events (the events formally known as Speech Nights) for our Melbourne campuses and Haileybury Rendall School (HRS) in Darwin. Thank you to all families who have attended. The commitment by Haileybury staff to One Haileybury and the focus on the primary magenta principle of ‘Every student matters every day’ have been strongly evident.

These events celebrate the breadth of student achievement but of course there is a focus on the core of a Haileybury education — strong academic outcomes through focused programs.

The highlights of these were:

  • All Haileybury ELC centres have attained the highest possible rating, including for the education programs, on the national assessment rating system.
  • Haileybury was the number one ranked primary school in Victoria for literacy and numeracy based on national testing results (NAPLAN).
  • HRS was the number one performing primary school in the Northern Territory.
  • Haileybury was in the top four open-entry secondary schools in Victoria for literacy and numeracy based on national testing.
  • 52% of VCE graduates attained an ATAR of 90+ placing them in the top 10% in Australia. Importantly, 96% of Haileybury graduates gained an ATAR that placed them in the top 40% in Australia. With 500 graduates this is an outstanding reflection of our commitment to every student. We work to improve our education outcomes by lifting every student up to be the best they can be.
  • Haileybury was in the top ten performing schools in Victoria by any/all of the different measures used from the VCE results (ATAR 90+, Percentage of Study Scores over 40, Median ATAR or Median Study Score).
  • HRS graduated a record 13 Indigenous students as a part of its cohort of 45 this year.
  • At HRS an excellent 26% of ATARs were at 90+.
  • At HRS the top Indigenous graduate gained an ATAR of 96.

These academic results were on top of the wonderful breadth of sport, music, drama, creative arts and enterprise and entrepreneurship activities that the students enjoyed.

Of course, these great outcomes were because of the wonderful collaboration between the outstanding teaching staff of Haileybury, the students and families. I thank you all for your commitment to providing the very best possible education for the students of Haileybury in 2024.
