Welcome to 2024!

I hope everyone is refreshed and recharged for 2024. I have heard many stories about holidays in different parts of Australia and around the world. Personally, I stayed in Darwin (not entirely by choice, but due to a back injury) and have loved the recent rains and relatively cool weather. I am enjoying starting this year as we welcome over 1,000 students for the first time at Haileybury Rendall School.

It has already been a big start to the year as both new and old staff prepared for the return of students. We welcomed and ran a two-day induction for 40 new staff, who have taken up roles in all areas of the School — teaching, boarding, administration and corporate. We also held Parent Information Nights for all sections of the School, as well as a special Boarding Dinner and Smoking Ceremony.

Around 150 new students joined us at the start of the year, and we are pleased to hear that the first few weeks at HRS have passed smoothly for them. As always, our parents and guardians are asked to contact us at any time if they have concerns or questions about their child’s journey with us.

We were thrilled to hear about the amazing VCE results of the Year 12 class of 2023, with a median ATAR of 85.6 being a clear school record and over 60% of students achieving an ATAR of 80 or above. It is even better to hear the stories of life after HRS, involving university courses, gap years, entering the workforce, travel, further studies and returning to community or moving interstate.

It is wonderful that all parents have had a chance to download the MyHRS app on their smartphones and/or visit the new parent intranet.

Our IT infrastructure and platforms now align with the same experience that staff, students and parents have access to in Melbourne.

So, welcome to 2024, and let us make this year one to remember!
