Newlands Up Day

On Tuesday, 21 November, all students from ELC to Year 7 will spend time in their 2024 classes as part of Up Day.

Current students will have a regular start and finish time and can wear their sports uniform for the day. This will be a wonderful opportunity for them, as well as those students joining Newlands, to meet their teachers and peers before next year. The day will offer students a taste of some of the subjects and activities on offer, while also providing an opportunity for everyone to know a few more people leading into next year.

We hope they all have a wonderful experience meeting new class members and are excited for their next phase at Haileybury.

Years 3 and 4 Academic Awards Assembly

The much-anticipated Years 3 and 4 Academic Awards Assembly is scheduled for Friday, 1 December at 2.50 pm. This event is a celebration of the hard work, growth and dedication exhibited by our young learners in their academic pursuits.

We eagerly await this special occasion to applaud our young scholars and to inspire them for the journey ahead.

Looking forward to 2024

Throughout November, children in the ELC have been participating in several sessions and activities to prepare for transition into Pre-Prep and Prep in 2024.

There has been enthusiasm and excitement as children in the ELC prepare for new surroundings and the next phase of their learning journey.

Discussions at home about what it is that excites your child can help support their enthusiasm, and there are several picture books that can be used to assist children to prepare for and understand the transition into a new environment.

End of year Celebration of Learning

As the year draws to a close, we look forward to welcoming our families to our Celebration of Learning. Reaching the end of a year of learning is a huge milestone in the ELC and children have grown emotionally, physically and academically.

Within the ELC, we encourage children to be reflective learners, to acknowledge how far they have come in their learning journey, and to articulate the learning that has occurred throughout the year.

During our Celebration of Learning, children will be sharing their Learning Journals with their family to celebrate the things they are proud of and what has been important to them this year.

Please see the dates and times below. We look forward to sharing this occasion with you.

Junior School

Prep Parent Information Night

On Tuesday, 21 November, following the Campus Orientation Day, we are excited to host the Junior School Prep Information Night on Zoom at 6.00 pm.

This promises to be an invaluable opportunity for parents and guardians to gain insights into our Preparatory program, to meet our dedicated educators, and to get a comprehensive overview of what our Junior School has to offer. Join us as we explore the curriculum, extracurricular activities and the nurturing environment we provide to help new Preps thrive academically and personally.

We look forward to virtually connecting with our new Prep families and addressing any questions or concerns about this important stage in their child’s education.

Leading from the heart

On Thursday, 23 November, the Year 3s will embark on a journey to the Berwick campus for a special leadership program. Newlands, Castlefield, City and Edrington will come together to learn what makes a good leader.

The program will be run by YLead and will focus on leading from the heart. Students will take part in activities that represent the HEART acronym and demonstrate leadership qualities:

H = Helpful
E = Energy
A = Action and Active
R = Respectful Relationships
T = Team Player

The Year 3 students will look forward to applying the skills they learn in their Junior School leadership roles in 2024.

Middle School

Year 5 Humanities excursions

At the end of Term 4, concluding their Humanities studies, Year 5 students will visit the Immigration Museum and Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia.

At the Immigration Museum, students will join a hands-on workshop and uncover unique settlement and migration experiences through objects and artefacts. At NGV Australia, they will explore Australia’s past through the lens of art. Through visual analysis and storytelling, students will have the chance to engage with the creative expressions of different periods in Australia’s history.

They will not only gain valuable historical knowledge but develop a deeper sense of empathy and understanding for diverse historical narratives and identities.
