Remarkable VCE Results

Dear Parents

Haileybury students have achieved a remarkable set of results in the 2014 Victorian Certificate of Education examinations.

Forty-six percent of all Haileybury results were in the top 10% in the country with an Australian Tertiary Admissions Ranking (ATAR) of 90 or above.  The ATAR is the ranking used by universities across Australia to allocate students to courses.  One of Haileybury's core academic aims is to have students achieve a strong ATAR so that they have a wide range of study choices available.

Anthony Chi and Roger Wu achieved the perfect ATAR of 99.95, placing them in the top 33 students out of the 49,000 who have completed the VCE.  They will share the boys Dux ATAR award.  Youstina Nan is the girls Dux ATAR winner with 99.9, placing her in the top 0.1% of all students.  Bob Zhu also achieved 99.9.

Twenty-three students (12%) attained an ATAR over 99, and 97 students (28%) obtained an ATAR over 95.

Haileybury is proudly an open-entry school and to have 67% of all results in the top 20% in the country and 90% of students in the top 40% in the country is a testament to the work of the teachers and the commitment of the students and their families.  These results demonstrate strong value-added performance from the largest open-entry independent school in Australia.

The percentage of Study Scores over 40 is a widely published measure.  A Study Score over 40 means that the student is in the top 8% of the students studying that subject.  An excellent 26% of Haileybury Girls College Study Scores were over 40 and the figure was 25% for Haileybury College (for boys).  These combined results are the best achieved in the eight years since Haileybury girls reached Year 12.

Eighteen Study Scores of 50 (the highest possible) were achieved in 11 subjects.  Special congratulations must go to Haileybury's Music Department where three students attained Study Scores of 50.

Haileybury is by any measure an exceptional academic school.  The 2014 results further add to this reputation.  What is particularly pleasing is that they have come about because of great teaching, the hard work of students and commitment of parents to support their sons and daughters.
