Academic and Music Scholarships are awarded during the Annual Scholarship Round in October each year on the basis of a common examination and interview.

Haileybury scholarships are usually awarded as a 25% to 50% discount on tuition fees. Limited numbers may be offered above this amount.

Academic and Music Scholarships are tenable until the student has completed Year 12 and cover the School's tuition fee or a fraction thereof. The Haileybury entrance fee, administrative charge and any levies are still payable.

Scholarship testing will take place on Saturday, 26 October 2019 at the Keysborough, Brighton, Berwick and City campuses.

Music Scholarships

Music Scholarships are awarded in recognition of advanced instrumental skill, and acknowledgement of an ongoing commitment to the Haileybury large ensemble program as directed by the Head of Haileybury Music.

Music Scholarships are available for entry into Years 7 and 10 at Keysborough, Brighton, Berwick and City campuses.

Students may apply for a Music Scholarship on one instrument only. No scholarships are offered for pianoforte. Scholarships will only be awarded for the instrument presented at audition and the campus the student applied for.

Students must have completed the following minimum AMEB Grade level or equivalent before the application date:

  • Year 7: AMEB Grade 4.
  • Year 10: AMEB Grade 6.

For audition students must present:

  • A piece on their principal instrument (either unaccompanied or you may bring your own accompanist)
  • Prepared sight reading (provided a few days before the audition)
  • Aural Tests (at the minimum AMEB level for that instrument)

The Music Scholarship will cover the music tuition fee for the principal instrument until and including Year 12. The student must undertake his/her music lessons at Haileybury.

A commitment to perform in Haileybury ensembles for the instrument in which the Music Scholarship is awarded, is an essential condition of holding a Music Scholarship and can be reviewed by the Head of Haileybury Music at any time. It is an expectation that the student will study VCE Music at the School.

Parents of students who are recipients of a Music Scholarship are expected to attend performances and become members of the music parents support group.

Auditions are held at Keysborough campus and will be on the following dates:

Wednesday, 23 October, Friday, 25 October and Friday, 1 November.

Scholarship Testing

To be eligible for a scholarship at Haileybury the applicant needs to sit the scholarship exam as outlined above.

The Round involves an examination followed by interviews for selected candidates, with successful candidates notified early in Term 1.

A non-refundable fee of $150, is charged to students who participate in the Annual Scholarship Round.

The examination is conducted by an independent testing agency. Students applying for a Music Scholarship are also required to audition.

Please be advised the result of your child/children's test will remain the property of the School and will not be distributed to families or shared with other schools.

No late applications will be accepted.
