Haileybury’s co-curricular and experiential learning program offers an extraordinary range of opportunities for students to grow and develop. The Year 9 Explore and Expeditions opportunities are a key feature of this, and this week more than 500 students will go out on this great program.
For 2026, students have 20 choices with 10 in each of the Explore and the Expeditions phase. The second round of trips go out in Term 3. The Explore program centres on students selecting an area of interest they may wish to ‘explore’ and learn more about. Some of the choices are Walking the Wars – Europe, China, Sport and Health (Queensland), Larapinta and Uluru (NT), NASA and an Ivy League (USA) trip. These trips always create lasting memories but can also be quite transformational for students.
The Expeditions focus more on fostering an appreciation and understanding of different natural environments. Each includes significant physical activities, and a number include social justice elements. Again, the choices are extensive and include Panama, South Africa, Spanish Camino Trail, India, Vietnam and a range of choices in Australia and New Zealand.
The students have been well prepared for the trips. Haileybury students gain the benefit of our scale with the remarkable range of choices available to them, but it is the commitment of the staff who accompany these trips for up to 12 days that is inspiring and appreciated.

The Explore and Expeditions encourage students to learn more about the world around them and their place in it. It was similar with the wonderful Winter Concert which had a Global Music Journey theme.
More than 300 students appeared on stage with a program spanning continents and cultures with a musical journey from Iceland, through Argentina, Bulgaria, the Soloman Islands, Japan, Brazil and more.
Once again Haileybury’s scale enables an extraordinary breadth of ensemble offerings with Symphony Orchestra, Wind Symphony, Camerata String Orchestra, Guitar Orchestra, Symphonic Band, Viva Voce, String Sinfonia, Haileybury Singers, Contemporary Singers and Stage Band all performing.
It was a glorious night and an extraordinary credit to the dedication of the music staff and the students.
