An evening of gratitude, generosity and lives changed forever
The generosity of the Haileybury community was celebrated last Thursday evening as donors, scholarship recipients and their families, and senior members of the Haileybury community came together for the Haileybury Foundation Thank You Event at Haileybury Brighton.
The evening was an opportunity to recognise the extraordinary contribution of Foundation supporters and, most importantly, to reflect on what their generosity makes possible: life-changing educational opportunities for young people who might otherwise be unable to attend Haileybury.
Through the stories shared by guest speakers, Robin Fildes (OH 1958) and Amy Ching (Haileybury Parents and Friends Keysborough) those in attendance were reminded that philanthropy is about much more than financial support. It is about opening doors, building confidence and giving young people the opportunity to discover their potential.
A highlight of the evening was hearing first-hand about the impact of scholarships and the difference they make throughout a student's Haileybury journey and beyond. These stories brought to life the Foundation's purpose of changing lives forever, demonstrating how the generosity of individuals, families and groups can have a lasting impact on another person's future.
The event also provided an opportunity for donors to connect with scholarship recipients and their families, share their own Haileybury experiences and see the impact of their support in a very personal way. For students and their families, it was a chance to express their gratitude and reflect on the opportunities that a Haileybury education has provided.
The power of a name
A recurring theme throughout the evening was the profound impact of named scholarships. Whether established by an individual, a family or a group of alumni, each scholarship carries a story and a commitment to helping another young person thrive.
Named scholarships create a meaningful connection between the person or group providing the opportunity and the student whose life is changed by it. For alumni, they offer a particularly powerful way to give back to the school that helped shape their own lives, ensuring future generations can experience similar opportunities.
Through the Foundation's Class Giving program, alumni can also unite with former classmates to establish a scholarship in the name of their year group, creating a lasting legacy that extends well beyond their own time at Haileybury.
Haileybury Foundation scholarships are means-tested and can provide between 25 and 100 per cent fee remission for the duration of a student's schooling, alongside access to the academic, co-curricular and wellbeing opportunities that make a Haileybury education so distinctive.
More than 60 students have already benefited from the generosity of Foundation donors. Each represents a unique story, a future full of possibility and a reminder that the impact of giving extends far beyond the school gates.
The Thank You Event was a fitting celebration of the people who make these opportunities possible. Their generosity is helping create a more inclusive Haileybury community and ensuring that a student's financial circumstances need not define their future.
A name. A student. A life changed forever.
