Big Freeze 12

Newlands has had a wonderful start to Term 2 and basked in glorious autumnal sunshine at the start, with all students and staff happily settled into productive academic and co-curricular routines. The weather has turned just in time for an initiative we are proud to participate in again in the Big Freeze to raising vital funds for MND and to help eradicate the Beast.

This year we have socks and beanies that can be purchased and collected from the Newlands Reception.

Early Learning Centre

KidsROAR

Our Newlands ELC children recently had the opportunity to participate in engaging KidsROAR sessions, while parents were invited to attend an informative online session beforehand to gain a deeper understanding of the program and its purpose. KidsROAR is an early childhood initiative focused on building emotional resilience, confidence and positive wellbeing in young children through play-based activities, storytelling and practical strategies. During the sessions, our children explored ways to recognise and express their feelings, develop self-regulation skills, and build strong, respectful relationships with others. Providing parents with insight into the program allowed for a shared understanding of the language and techniques being introduced, helping to strengthen consistency between home and their children’s learning environment.

ELC Mother's Day

We were delighted to celebrate our mothers and special friends event across two wonderful days, creating meaningful opportunities for connection within our Newlands ELC community. Our fabulous educators led engaging Zumba and yoga sessions, inviting children and their special guests to move, laugh and participate together in new and fun ways. These shared experiences provided a beautiful opportunity for our children to proudly include their loved ones in their learning environment, strengthening their sense of confidence and belonging.

Junior School

Year 2 String Recital

We are excited to present the Newlands Junior String Recital, taking place on Tuesday, 2 June in Aikman Hall from 2.30 pm – 3.30 pm.

The upcoming recital promises to be a standout moment of the term for our Year 2 students, as they step onto the big stage for the first time with their string instruments.

For many, this marks a significant and memorable milestone, and the sense of pride and accomplishment will be evident in every performance.

We warmly encourage families and friends to join us in supporting the students at what is sure to be a joyful celebration of their musical growth and learning.

There is no doubt the experience will leave them inspired and eager for future opportunities to perform.

Junior School in Action - literacy

Parents and guardians of Junior School students are warmly invited to attend our Junior School in Action: Literacy sessions on Wednesday, 17 June, from 8.35 am – 9.35 am.

This engaging event provides a wonderful opportunity to step inside the classroom and experience firsthand the literacy teaching and learning that takes place each day at Newlands.

During the session, visitors will also gain a deeper understanding of how literacy is embedded across the Junior School, helping students make meaningful connections in their learning.

There will be an opportunity to see students actively engaged in their learning, demonstrating the routines, structures and strategies that support their growth as capable and confident learners.

We look forward to welcoming you into our classrooms and sharing the vibrant literacy culture that is such an important part of life at Newlands Junior School.

Middle School

A great Term 2

It has been a positive Term 2, with Middle School students returning refreshed after a well-earned break and ready to embrace new challenges. The renewed energy across the campus has been evident, with students quickly settling back into routines and engaging enthusiastically in their learning. Year 8 students are set to complete their Semester 1 exams and commencing Semester 2, approaching this new phase with focus and determination. This strong start has set a confident and focused tone for the term ahead.

Makers Market

The Makers Market was another fantastic showcase of creativity, teamwork and entrepreneurial spirit across the Middle School at Newlands this term. Students worked in groups to design and run their own stalls, managing sales and engaging with customers throughout the day.

The event ran smoothly, with stalls set up in a professional and organised manner. Students demonstrated responsibility by maintaining engaging stalls and working collaboratively, contributing to a vibrant and positive atmosphere across the School. The creativity and effort shown by students made the day a great success.

Beyond the event itself, the Makers Market provided students with valuable opportunities to develop key entrepreneurial skills, including problem-solving, financial literacy, communication and innovation. These real-world experiences help build confidence and encourage students to think creatively and independently.
