ELC Musical - stories with a message

Excitement is building as our Reception and Pre-Prep children prepare for the ELC Musical on Wednesday, 28 October.

Reception students will present Henny Hen and the 5 Little Chicks, exploring the importance of caring for others, persevering through challenges and asking friends for help through music, movement and storytelling. Our Pre-Prep children will present The Creepy Crawly Crew: An ELC Minibeast Adventure, celebrating kindness, friendship, teamwork and belonging through the wonderful message: ‘Different together, better together!’

From little things, big things grow

A highlight of preparing for the musical has been the agency and autonomy our children have demonstrated throughout the creative process. Rather than simply rehearsing a performance designed for them, they have helped shape each show, with their interests and ideas influencing characters, costumes, music and storytelling.

As rehearsals have progressed, it has been wonderful to see their confidence grow as they take ownership of their roles, share ideas and encourage one another.

The musical has also brought the broader school community together. Junior School and Middle School teachers, alongside our Year 3 buddies, have generously shared their time and talents to create backdrops, props, sets and posters. This collaboration reflects the deep and authentic connections between our ELC children and the wider school community.

We look forward to welcoming families to these performances, which promise to be a joyful celebration of learning, creativity and enthusiasm.

Living and Growing Program

During Term 4, our Year 4 students will participate in the Sex Education Australia (SEA) program as part of the Health and Safety curriculum. The program provides age-appropriate information to help students develop a clear and respectful understanding of their bodies and the physical changes they experience as they grow.

Three classroom sessions, facilitated by a SEA instructor, will cover body awareness, how babies develop and are born, and the physical changes associated with puberty.

To support families, SEA hosted a Year 4 Parent Information Session via Zoom on Thursday, 8 October at 7.00 pm. The session outlined the program content and provided parents with an opportunity to ask questions.

Year 3 Future Leaders Day

On Tuesday, 13 October, the City Campus welcomed Haileybury Year 3 students for Future Leaders Day.

The day brought students together for engaging experiences focused on developing the skills and qualities needed to become resilient, respectful and confident individuals and leaders. Through team-building and problem-solving activities, students strengthened their communication, cooperation and decision-making skills while building confidence and working with peers from across Haileybury.

Students were also encouraged to listen to others, support their peers, show respect and take responsibility for their actions.

Future Leaders Day highlighted that leadership is not simply about being in charge, but about making positive contributions, working together and demonstrating the values of a strong and respectful leader. It was a valuable and enjoyable opportunity for Year 3 students to reflect on how they can contribute positively to their classrooms, school and wider community.

A warm welcome back to Term 4 at Newlands

There was a wonderful sense of energy across Newlands as students returned for Term 4, reconnecting with friends and teachers and embracing the opportunities ahead.

As we approach the end of the year, Term 4 is a time for reflection, growth and finishing strongly. Through academic studies, co-curricular activities, leadership and community events, students are encouraged to challenge themselves, celebrate their achievements and make the most of every opportunity.

At the heart of Newlands is a strong sense of belonging, built on positive relationships and a supportive, inclusive community. We look forward to a term filled with learning, achievement and opportunities for every student to contribute and thrive.

Back to Newlands

A special highlight of Term 4 so far was our Back to Newlands event, welcoming the graduating Class of 2026 (our current Year 12 students) back to the Middle School where many of their Haileybury journeys began.

The visit offered students an opportunity to revisit familiar spaces, reconnect with former teachers and reflect on the friendships, challenges and experiences that shaped their Middle School years. Hearing their stories was a wonderful reminder of the lasting impact of these formative experiences.

For our Year 12 students, the occasion provided an opportunity to reflect on how far they have come. For our current Year 8 students, it offered a glimpse of the journey ahead and a reminder to embrace opportunities, nurture friendships and make the most of their time in Middle School.

Back to Newlands remains a cherished tradition, celebrating our students’ growth and the enduring relationships and sense of community that continue to connect them to Newlands long after they leave.

HPFK Annual General Meeting

HPFK Second-Hand Uniform Shop – we need your support

As we look ahead to 2027, we are in urgent need of new volunteers to help keep our Second-Hand Uniform Shop running. Our existing volunteers have done an incredible job, but to continue offering the same opening hours and service that our families have come to rely on, we need more helping hands.

Volunteering at the shop is a wonderful way to meet other parents, build friendships and become more involved in the Haileybury community. Whether you can spare a little time or volunteer regularly, every contribution makes a difference. No previous experience is necessary, just a willingness to lend a hand.

If you are interested in volunteering or would simply like to find out more, please contact HPFK via our email hpfk@haileybury.com.au or leave your contact details with the school office, and a member of our team will be in touch to discuss how you can get involved.

Please see below our upcoming opening dates and times:

  • Saturday 17 October: 9.00 am – 12.00 pm
  • Saturday 24 October: 9.00 am – 12.00 pm
  • Friday 6 November: 2.00 pm – 4.00 pm
  • Saturday 14 November: 9.00 am – 12.00 pm
  • Saturday 21 November: 9.00 am – 12.00 pm
  • Tuesday 24 November: 8.30 am – 10.00 am and 1.00 pm – 4.00 pm

A heartfelt thank you to our wonderful existing volunteers for their ongoing dedication and commitment. Your generosity makes this valuable service possible, and we are incredibly grateful.

Together, let’s keep our Second-Hand Uniform Shop thriving.
