Haileybury partnering with global sport brand IMG to develop youth athletes

In line with our vision to be recognised as one of the world's greatest and most advanced sport and activity programs, Haileybury is proud to partner with IMG Academy, a global leader in sports education, to help drive athlete development. The IMG Academy offers a world-renowned boarding school and industry-leading camps at its Bradenton, Florida campus, as well as offering the world’s largest and most successful US college recruiting platform.

To kick off the partnership, we are inviting senior school students to join Haileybury staff for an end of year tour to the United States, to immerse themselves in the world of elite athlete development, as well as gain exposure to US college pathway opportunities. The trip will include a six-day camp at the IMG Academy in Orlando, Florida, where athletes will be exposed to elite philosophies, techniques, information and coaching; with a curriculum that includes leadership and communication, mental performance, strength and conditioning, speed and agility, recovery, athlete assessment and injury prevention. In addition, students will also get the opportunity to visit a number of US colleges in order to gain an immersive appreciation of the true college experience. Finally, students will visit elite sporting clubs to see how professional athletes prepare for high performance competition.

The trip is planned for December school holidays. Keep an eye out for further information soon.

Coach Development according to our new Head of Coaching, Nathan Burke

We were delighted to welcome our new Head of Coaching, Nathan Burke, who recently had the opportunity to address our teaching cohort on Start Up Day.

Nathan spoke passionately about the importance of living one’s purpose as an educator, and how the Haileybury sport program provides a powerful and authentic vehicle through which this purpose can be realised. When teachers bring together their inherent teaching expertise with a clear sense of purpose, they are exceptionally well placed to become outstanding coaches, guiding, mentoring and inspiring students well beyond the field of play.

A key focus of Nathan’s address was the intentional design of team culture. At Haileybury, this culture is underpinned by four core concepts that shape every sporting experience:

  • Fun – fostering enjoyment and a love of participation
  • Connectedness – building strong relationships and a sense of belonging
  • Striving – encouraging effort, growth and the pursuit of excellence
  • Capability – developing confidence, competence and leadership in every student.

These principles ensure that our sport program is not only about performance, but about character, growth and lifelong learning.

We are incredibly proud of the way our educators embrace their roles as coaches, and of the thoughtful, values-driven approach that continues to define sport at Haileybury. It is this commitment that enables our students to thrive, both as athletes and as young people.

Haileybury cricketer leads Victorian U12 Schoolboy team to national champions

Earlier in the cricket season, Year 7 student, Joshua , was selected in the School Sport Victoria Under 12’s team for the national championships in Ballarat. Following some exceptional performances in the trials, and demonstration of his leadership, Josh was selected as the team captain. He was presented his team cap by rising Australian Cricket star, Ollie Peake. Team Vic dominated the tournament, finishing as champions undefeated. Batting at 5, Josh had limited opportunities with the bat due to the dominance of the top order, but finished as the leading wicket taker for the team with his crafty leg spin bowling. The SSV coach applauded Josh’s tactical leadership as a key factor in the team’s success.
