Haileybury CEO|Principal Mr Derek Scott has been named Australia’s best principal.
Mr Scott’s leadership and vision were recognised when he was named School Principal of the Year—Non-government and Australian School Principal of the Year at the Australian Education Awards.
His ambitious program aims to see Haileybury recognised as a great world school, while ensuring that every student matters every day.
This bold vision has seen Haileybury become one of Australia’s leading schools with a strong presence in the Asia-Pacific Region, while focusing on the personal and academic success of each individual student.
Since becoming Principal in 2008, Mr Scott has nurtured academic excellence, parental engagement, staff development, social justice, enterprise and entrepreneurship.
“I have focused on employing great people and empowering them to act and maintain a relentless focus on improvement,” he says. “We want to develop bold, ambitious young people who make things happen, but always with a focus on ethical decision making.”
Mr Scott was honoured for his strong leadership and positive relationships with staff and students.
His many achievements include Haileybury students achieving some of the best NAPLAN results in Australia, exceptional VCE outcomes, the Haileybury Institute, Haileybury International School Tianjin, Haileybury City and Haileybury Rendall School in Darwin.
Mr Scott has also expanded the School’s international outlook by delivering the VCE in several Asian countries and offering students global travel, exchange and study opportunities.
While working hard on student success, he knows this can only be achieved with the best teachers and programs. Mr Scott empowers his leadership teams to be proactive and celebrate their successes.
Engaging with parents and carers is also a top priority and a vital part of their child’s school journey.
