Stick Insects Join the ELC
The Newlands ELC have welcomed some new friends to the classroom this term!
Our Newlands Science technician, Lisa Langenfelds, has introduced the students to a stick insect enclosure. These new class pets enable the students to learn about the responsibility of taking care of living creatures.
The students have been observing the details of the stick insects, such as their 6 legs and their plant-based diet. The stick insects are also able to camouflage themselves to take on the appearance of leaves, effectively hiding themselves from prey.
Their nocturnal nature is intriguing to the students but they are starting to familiarize themselves with the insect’s gentle nature.
The students have also enjoyed spending time with the new class pets outside of the enclosure so they can see the unusual creatures up close!
