Mr Scott attended Balwyn High School until Year 11 and then completed Year 12 at Mt Albert Grammar in Auckland. He represented both Australia and New Zealand at underage cricket. Mr Scott completed a degree in Political Science from Auckland University whilst also working as a journalist for the New Zealand Herald and playing first class cricket for Auckland.
He joined Haileybury in 2002, was Head of Senior School between 2005 and 2007, and was appointed Principal in December of 2007. He is a Director of Haileybury International and is the Chairman of Haileybury International School in China. Mr Scott has worked extensively on curriculum development for the VCAA and has had books published on the issues of globalisation, international studies, and global terrorism. Derek is on the Board of the International Education Association of Australia and is on the Federal Government’s Ministerial Advisory Council for International Education.
