Ten students from Haileybury were among a group of Melbourne high school students who recently attended Monash University’s Commerce Scholars Day, an exclusive invitation-only event for high-achieving Year 12 commerce students.
Commerce Scholars Day is designed to extend talented students by giving them access to university educators to enhance their VCE studies and familiarise themselves with university life.
“Commerce Scholars Day provides students like those from Haileybury Girls College with a wonderful opportunity to experience for themselves what it is like to study at Monash University, and in particular in the Faculty of Business and Economics,” said Professor Colm Kearney, Dean of the Faculty and Head of the Business School.
The students were also invited to attend a Q&A panel with some of the university’s leading academics in Economics, Banking and Finance and Management, who addressed the issues around the future of manufacturing in Australia. Due to the panel’s varying areas of expertise and backgrounds, students were provided with a well-rounded perspective on the topic, with all experts sharing stories and providing their insights.
All in all, Commerce Scholars Day proved to be very successful with all 180 participants leaving with a real taste of university life and the academics already looking forward to welcoming them as Monash students next year!
