Reconciliation Week
‘All In’ was the theme for Reconciliation Week this year and we had some wonderful experiences and activities for our students to demonstrate unity, respect and understanding across the week. The yarning circle around the fire pit with community members, staff, students and parents all coming together before the school day, was a highlight. Hudson Fraser and Skyla Lauch from Living Culture, spoke proudly and passionately at our Middle School assembly about the use of a returning boomerang, and Marn Grook, meaning ‘game ball,’ which is widely credited as a major inspiration for Australian rules football. Both our Middle School lunchtime BBQ, and the ELC and Junior School Community BBQ raised money for Children’s Ground and The Long Walk. Thank you to the parents who joined us in our learnings and fun.
Pyjama Day and Our Village
In the theme of keeping warm, and generously donating, on Friday 5 June, students wore pyjamas, oodies, ugg boots and onesies to celebrate that winter has finally arrived.
The foyer is filling up with items for Our Village, the combined charity of St Kilda Mums, Geelong Mums and Eureka Mums, that have come together to achieve a goal of reaching every Victorian baby and child up to age six that needs essential items, by collecting and rehoming items and partnering with social workers and maternal and child health nurses to provide to those infants in need.
We usually find our foyer overflowing with items kindly donated by our families and once again we are asking for charitable contributions, with Monday, 22 June being the final day for donations.

Kindling curiosity around the fire pit
Gathering around the fire pit in Beereen season (no more sun) is a special time filled with wonder and curiosity.
An action in our Haileybury Reconciliation Action Plan is learning more about Aboriginal ways of being. This has led to the introduction of our Fire Pit Project.
We believe children are capable and competent, able to lead their own learning with sensitive mentoring and guidance by Educators. Children are naturally curious about the world around them, and fire provides a meaningful opportunity to understand and learn about safety, the many uses of fire and respect for nature. Through guided experiences, we hope children will share in storytelling, music and dance around the fire.
We look forward to sharing this rich and engaging learning journey with the children and families.
Connecting through Charlie Bear
Our Travelling Teddy Exchange program has begun. This special project connects our Castlefield and Edrington children through the adventures of a class teddy bear named Charlie.
Throughout the term, Charlie will travel between the campuses, joining in daily routines, learning experiences and play. Children will follow Charlie’s journey through photos, drawings, messages written from Charlie’s perspective, and shared reflections.
This exciting exchange encourages communication, develops emotional literacy, and helps children build connections and a sense of responsibility and belonging across the Haileybury community.
Junior School
Year 4 Bayside adventure
We welcomed all Melbourne Year 4 students to our Brighton campus for the day earlier in the term. We began with a combined recess and tour before heading off on foot along South Road to Green Point. As the geographic location of Green Point provides a wonderful view of the city in the distance, we chose an art lesson to take in and capture our own images of the coast and city in the distance, which also provided each student with a unique keepsake of the day. Yoga was employed to create a space for children to sit in nature, listen to the sounds, smell the ocean and sand, be still and notice the small wondrous details of the beach. The bathing boxes are not just iconic to Melbourne, but Brighton in particular, and as we have a connection to the owner of the most recognised bathing box, the one painted with the Australian flag, it was a great opportunity for student to learn more about them. Many Haileybury families are members of the Brighton Beach Surf Life Saving Club, giving us the opportunity to provide many students from the other campuses with a unique experience to tour the club and learn about what the life savers do.

Junior School Strings Concert
A lovely showcase of our youngest players was held in Dickinson Hall. Playing along to Little Red Riding Hood, Not Quite by Yvonne Morrison and Donovan Bixley, the Years 2 and 3 students showed their skills and musicality to the audience. For many it was their first time performing, and they had a wonderful experience surrounded by 100 children all playing along together. A special shout out to the amazing Strings teacher team for their dedication and patience.

Middle School
Belonging in Middle School
Our Open Mornings were a wonderful opportunity to welcome parents into our School and share in the daily experiences that make our learning community so special. It was amazing to see families spending time in classrooms, observing lessons, engaging with activities and gaining a deeper understanding of their child’s school life. The excitement and pride on the students’ faces as they shared their learning with their parents created a truly positive and memorable atmosphere throughout the School.
These occasions highlight the importance of the strong partnership between parents, teachers and students.
Our brother–sister activities provide valuable opportunities for students to build meaningful connections across year levels and genders. These shared experiences foster friendship, respect and collaboration, strengthening our sense of connectedness and belonging across the campus. By learning and growing together, students develop supportive relationships that enrich our School community and culture. A sense of fun and collaboration is often the feeling throughout these sessions as our Middle School students come together to share in these experiences and further strengthen their connections and sense of team across the School.

Parking
Parking around the property can, at times, be difficult. Our priority is the safety and wellbeing of our Haileybury community. Parents leaving via the South Road exit, please take care when turning onto South Road, particularly as the pedestrian crossing is so close to the exit.
Remember that all exits from the School to Villeroy and Rouen Streets close at 6.00 pm nightly. If you are attending an evening function, we encourage you to park on South Road and enter through the front gate.
There is no drop-off/pick-up zone in Rouen Street, with parking restrictions in place along one side at busy school start and end times.
There are clearly signed two-minute parking spaces outside our Villeroy Street gate. These should be used as a ‘kiss-and-go’ zone rather than for disembarking from your car. Cars should not be left unattended.
Families are encouraged to use the roundabout via the South Road entrance as the preferred drop-off and pick-up location.
