Reconciliation Week

Throughout Reconciliation Week, our Middle School students participated in a range of meaningful activities designed to deepen their understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories, cultures, and contributions. Students engaged in the Sea of Hands display, took part in Welcome to Country, attended Storytime sessions and Dance Workshops, and explored their creativity through various Indigenous-inspired art activities. These experiences provided valuable opportunities for students to learn, reflect and engage in important conversations about reconciliation, respect and inclusion.

Big Freeze for MND

Our Middle School students proudly showed their support for the Big Freeze campaign, wearing blue beanies and socks to help raise awareness and support the fight against Motor Neurone Disease (MND). To further support this important cause, students also enjoyed a community BBQ, with funds raised contributing to the ongoing fight against MND. It was wonderful to see such strong participation across the School, with students embracing the opportunity to make a positive difference while coming together as a community in support of a worthy cause.

New Pre-Prep classroom

The Newlands Early Learning Centre is delighted to celebrate the opening of our brand-new Pre-Prep classroom, a highly anticipated addition to our learning environment that has been under construction since last year. The room was officially opened in a special ribbon-cutting ceremony led by our CEO| Principal Derek Scott, Head of Campus Mr Hugo Engele and Acting Head of Campus Dr Stephan Muller. The occasion marked an exciting milestone for our ELC community and reflected our ongoing commitment to creating enriching, high-quality spaces for our youngest learners. The thoughtfully designed classroom has already become a vibrant and welcoming environment where children have settled beautifully, embracing new opportunities for creativity, collaboration and exploration. Accompanying the new room is the refurbishment of the adjoining outdoor space which features a brand-new sandpit, playground and verandah, thoughtfully designed to extend and enrich children’s learning beyond the classroom. The opening of this wonderful space represents an exciting new chapter for our ELC, and we look forward to watching our children continue to learn and grow within this environment for many years to come.

Year 4 Bayside adventure excursion

On Thursday, 14 May all Year 4 students converged on Castlefield for a day of fun, discovery and adventure. With perfect weather conditions, students from all four Melbourne campuses walked to the Brighton foreshore to participate in a range of engaging activities, including exploratory walks, learning about lifesaving history, landscape art and yoga. Students also had the unique opportunity to hear from one of the owners of the iconic Brighton Beach boxes that line the foreshore, gaining insight into their history and significance.

Year 1 Gumbuya World excursion

The Year 1 students will travel to Gumbuya World to participate in the Wildlife Ranger Guided Program excursion. This exciting experience will provide students with the unique opportunity to become the next generation of Wildlife Superheroes, fostering both a love of wildlife and an understanding of the importance of protecting native Australian animals.

Students will engage in a variety of hands on and interactive learning experiences. They will explore topics including the life cycles of native Australian animals, habitats, adaptations and environmental conservation.

The program combines practical, engaging activities and close-up animal encounters with many Australian species.

This excursion strongly connects with the students’ current 'writing and vocabulary' lessons, as they have been researching and writing about native Australian animals throughout the term.

Middle School

Medieval Day Festival

Year 8 students will participate in a Medieval Day Festival on Tuesday, 23 June. This is an immersive learning experience designed to bring their history studies to life. Throughout the day, students will rotate through a range of workshops exploring key aspects of medieval society, including daily life, warfare, feudalism and social structure.

Students will engage in interactive activities and demonstrations that deepen their understanding of the medieval world while developing historical inquiry skills. This experience complements classroom learning and provides opportunities for students to actively explore the people, beliefs and systems that shaped medieval times.

Curious Minds

Our students enthusiastically participated in Curious Minds week, engaging in a range of activities and presentations designed to inspire future pathways and aspirations. Students had the opportunity to hear from professionals across a variety of industries, gaining valuable insights into different careers, experiences and areas of expertise. They also connected with Senior School students, who shared their own journeys and perspectives. The program provided an excellent opportunity for students to explore possibilities beyond the classroom, ask questions, and develop a deeper understanding of the many exciting pathways available to them in the future.

HPFK update – halfway through the year

As we reach the halfway point of the year, the HPFK committee would like to highlight some of the wonderful events and initiatives that have brought our school community together so far in 2026.

Our Years 5 and 7 Bowling Night, provided a fantastic opportunity for students and families to connect, make new friendships and enjoy a fun evening together.

HPFK hosted the Easter Egg Hunt and Easter Raffle, with the school community showing incredible support. Thanks to the generosity of our families, these events helped raise funds for the Good Friday Appeal while creating plenty of excitement for students.

Our annual Mother’s Day Stall was once again a highlight of the term, giving students the opportunity to purchase thoughtful gifts and show appreciation for the special women in their lives.

Following the Middle School examination period, students were able to celebrate their hard work at the End of Exams BBQ. It was wonderful to see students relax, spend time with friends and enjoy a well-deserved break after a busy assessment period.

These events would not be possible without the support of our dedicated volunteers, staff, parents and students. Thank you to everyone who has contributed their time, energy and enthusiasm throughout the year so far.

As we look ahead to the second half of the year, we are excited to continue creating opportunities that strengthen connections within our school community and make Haileybury an even more welcoming and vibrant place for all.

Thank you for your continued support of HPFK.
