Congratulations to Mingda (Year 7) from Haileybury Newlands (Keysborough) on winning two awards in this year’s National History Challenge 2023.

Mingda participated in the Curious Minds National History Challenge during Term 2 and 3 this year, where he selected a period of history that he was interested in and conducted research using a range of primary and secondary sources. He then presented his findings in an historical essay. He progressed to the State finals in September, where he was interviewed by a panel of historians about his research.

Mingda was awarded the 2023 Victorian Young Historian Gold in the category ‘Using Primary Sources’ and was also awarded the 2023 Victorian Young Historian Gold for Year 7.

We are very proud of his efforts and hope that his passion for history continues.

The National History Challenge is a national competition and is offered as part of the Curious Minds program at Haileybury.

A huge congratulations to Bella Eddey (OH 2019), who will become the first Old Haileyburian to play in an AFLW Grand Final when she takes the field for North Melbourne in this weekend's match against the Brisbane Lions.

Bella has played 46 games for the Kangaroos and was named in 2022 as one of the OHA’s Outstanding Young Alumni Award winners. Well done, Bella!

A huge congratulations to Archie Roberts (OH 2023) for being selected by Essendon at pick 54 in the AFL National Draft.

Each year, one of Haileybury's CEO|Principal, Derek Scott's favourite activities is presenting every new Year 12 (the 2024 cohort) with their Year 12 tie and badge and taking a moment to have a conversation with each of them about the year ahead!

There are 496 Year 12 students on Haileybury’s Melbourne campuses this year, and Derek loves to hear what they are looking forward to, what they have enjoyed about their schooling, what challenges they have faced and how they have overcome them.

Below we have two of our Year 12 House Captains, Maheet & Neve, receiving their tie and badge.

We are thrilled to announce that our Senior School production of 'The SpongeBob Musical,' held earlier this year, has been nominated for a whopping 26 awards in the 2023 Lyrebird and Guild Awards!

This is an incredible achievement, and we are most pleased to be nominated for ‘Best Production’ and the commendation for ‘Best Ensemble’, which reflects the work of every part of the team – onstage and behind the scenes.

We are incredibly proud of the whole production crew for these nominations and of the specific students and staff who have been acknowledged: Thanh (Year 12), Alexis (Year 11), Ruby (Year 11), Genevieve (Year 12), Sienna (Year 12), Archie (Year 12), Samuel (Year 11), Harishan (Year 12), Robert Latham, Alexander Meagher, Matthew Sanderson, Gerard Hook and Nick Waxman.

Say hello to Zac (Year 8), Haileybury's Two-Time Spelling Bee Champion!

Zac recently won the Years 7—8 national title in the 2023 Prime Minister’s Spelling Bee (a feat he accomplished last year too!) where he tackled a series of words that would puzzle people two or three times his age. The super speller scored 28/30 in an impressive 1min 25 seconds.

Competitors are given 30 random words from their reading level word list to spell and have 25 seconds to spell each word. The Prime Minister’s Spelling Bee attracted close to 60,000 students from across the country!

Congratulations to Riley Thompson (OH 2017) on his journey from Haileybury to American Football!

Riley’s journey to the Division I level started in Melbourne playing Australian Rules Football at Haileybury. While at Haileybury, he watched some of his teammates find success transitioning from the Australian game to the American game and took the same route. Riley joined Prokick Australia, a developmental program that trains athletes for success in America, and took a shot at going to an American college.

Riley says "To come over here and get to enjoy everything that comes with playing at a school like Penn State has been awesome. I would really just like to play for my family. So it’s pretty awesome to represent Australia and do something great for them"

Jacqueline, a Year 11 student at Haileybury’s City campus, was named both Overall Winner and winner of the Years 11/12 category in the What Matters? competition. The competition is sponsored by the Whitlam Institute at Western Sydney University and is open to Australian students in Years 5 to 12.

The competition is inspired by former Prime Minister Gough Whitlam’s commitment to involving young people in shaping Australia’s future. It empowers students to express their ideas on issues that are important to them.

CLASS OF 2023!

In October, we officially bid farewell to our outstanding Year 12 students with their Graduations and Valedictory dinners. We are immensely proud of our Year 12 cohort and wish the class of 2023 every success in the next stage of their journey!

Facing some very tough competition, Year 12 Haileybury students performed some high-energy moves to impress the judges with eight girls winning double gold.

The FISAF Australia championships recognise some of the best sport aerobics performers in the country and the national event attracts competitors from across the country.

Dual gold medallist, Madison, Haileybury Aerobics Captain, said the crowds at the Gold Coast event were the biggest audience she had ever performed in front of. Discover more here.

We are thrilled to announce that three of our word-loving students made it to the national final of the 2023 Prime Minister's Spelling Bee with last year's winner, Zac, winning for a second year in a row!

Incredible news from The Commonwealth Youth Games... Haileybury Senior School student Tommy (Year 12) won bronze in the 1500m freestyle with an 18-second PB.

The finish was crazy, with gold, silver and bronze separated by a heartbeat! Tommy also nailed gold in the 4x200m free relay and a bronze in the 4x100m.

These wins are a tribute to Tommy's hard work, passion and perseverance, along with his teammates and coach. The Australian Youth team bought home an incredible 20 medals in total!

Tommy overcame the heat, humidity and change in time zones like a true champion.

Local students have triumphed at the recent TFT Dance Star & Schoolaerobics Nationals in Adelaide, bringing home an impressive collection of gold medals and national titles.

During five days of tough competition, students from Haileybury impressed the judges and didn’t miss a carefully choreographed step.

Haileybury student, Angela (Year 9), is helping to keep the ancient study of Latin alive by becoming a state champion in the subject.

Angela was one of around 80 students from 11 schools across Victoria who competed in an annual Latin Reading Competition organised by the Classical Association of Victoria. Year 11 student, Jaeden, also won a silver medal in the Year 12 age group.

Haileybury in Concert triumphantly returned to Melbourne Recital Centre in August.

With a combination of meticulously selected repertoire, fine performances, and the acoustic intimacy of the exquisite Elisabeth Murdoch Hall, over 230 students wowed an appreciative audience.

This concert was a highlight of the 2023 music calendar, and we congratulate everyone involved!
