Happy start to the year

Well done to all our City students on a very successful start to the year. Our Early Learning Centre has been brimming with enthusiasm.

Our Junior School enjoyed a fabulous first Assembly, as we celebrated Founders Day at Haileybury. They have also been working hard in class and Year 4 presented a terrific set of leadership speeches as well, as redesigned the School for the next ten years.

Our Middle School Induction Days upskilled our students and provided them with a solid grounding for the year ahead. Students learnt important skills in organisation and device usage and have begun laying the foundations for friendships to flourish amongst their Homeroom peers.

What a wonderful start to learning in 2026 at Haileybury.

Curious Minds in Middle School

There are so many great activities and clubs available before school, at lunchtime and after school. If you are after further information about the Curious Minds program, including a timetable of activities available, please visit the Haileybury app, where there is a specific button for Curious Minds. Make sure your child seizes some of the many opportunities, and gets involved in all that is on at City campus.

SOARing at City

Haileybury’s Safe Online Actions and Relationships, known as SOAR, launched on 25 November 2025 with our first webinar and the release of the Parent Toolkit.

Last week, City Campus hosted our first One Haileybury 2026 roadshow event, featuring a leading expert in parenting, Dr Judith Locke. Next, we will engage with our families at our Parent Agreement Workshops, and later this term we will introduce our new microcredentials program.‑credentials program.

Dr Judith Locke is a clinical psychologist, former teacher, and leading expert in modern parenting, family wellbeing and academic environments. Her practical strategies helped parents and teachers assist children to become confident and capable, as they develop their maturity and independence. Those who attended, both at City and online, learnt much from her expertise. Stay tuned for more events as we continue to SOAR at Haileybury.

Early Learning Centre

Welcome to the ELC in 2026

We have started the new year with smiling faces, new friendships and a strong sense of belonging across the ELC. The principle of belonging within the Early Years Learning Framework is of huge importance as children transition into new routines and experiences. As Reception children become familiar with their learning environment, daily morning routines have supported the development of independence. Children proudly carry their own school bags and confidently place them into their lockers each morning. Family photos displayed on lockers and throughout the room help foster connection, comfort and a sense of security.

Pre-Prep children have happily reunited with familiar peers while also welcoming new friends into the community. They continue to strengthen their sense of belonging by learning about one another, building friendships and actively engaging with the learning spaces. Through play, shared experiences and supportive educator relationships, children are developing confidence, social skills and a positive sense of identity as they begin the year together.

ELC Curriculum Information session

Thank you to our families who attended the ELC Curriculum Information Session. Your time, engagement and ongoing support strengthen our partnerships and help create a positive, connected learning community for all children.

Junior School

Up we go! Our 2026 Junior School goal

In the Junior School at City, we strive to foster a culture of learning that supports the continued development of students’ growth mindset, flexible thinking capabilities and independent and co-regulation strategies. We hope, when guided by their teachers and trusted adults, they will rise above challenges and seek opportunities to enhance and enrich their experience in the Junior School at Haileybury City. The sky is the limit. This approach to how students care, learn and play intends to strengthen their overall contribution to the school community and to prompt them to welcome setbacks as opportunities and take measured risks throughout their learning.

Welcome, everyone

We are pleased to welcome all members of the Junior School community in 2026, and to extend an especially warm welcome to our new Prep families. The Preps have settled well into their new learning environment, establishing positive habits and routines that will support the development of independence as the year unfolds.

We also encourage all families who are new to the Junior School to continue to review the 2026 Junior School Handbook and important notices via the myHaileybury parent app, as this will remain our primary source of information throughout the year, including key processes, events and reminders.

Expert support is always available to parents and families to ensure an optimal experience when accessing and using the myHaileybury app and Canvas myLearning for accessing Junior School assessments and results. Below you will find an overview of who your best contact may be in your time of need.

On behalf of the brilliant Junior School staff, thank you to the families who attended the 2026 Parent Information Evening and Meet and Greet in Week 1. Your time and engagement are greatly appreciated, and we value the opportunity to work in partnership with you.

Emotional regulation and wellbeing incursion – Years 1 and 3

We are pleased to welcome back a valued emotional regulation initiative in 2026. Renowned speech pathologist Julie Liptak will once again be working with our Years 1 and 3 students, delivering an engaging session focused on emotional awareness and self-management. During the workshop, Julie will introduce and reinforce strategies from the Zones of Regulation, providing students with practical tools to better understand and manage their emotions and dynamics with friends.

Julie’s sessions are scheduled for Friday, 20 February, as outlined in the Key Dates for Parents. This initiative remains an important part of our Wellbeing program, supporting students’ social and emotional development.

Middle School

Starting the year strong in the Middle School

Our Middle School students have begun the year with enthusiasm, positivity and a strong commitment to their learning. Guided by the BMS/GMS theme for 2026, Opportunity, students are being encouraged to reflect on the year ahead and consider the many opportunities available to them; both within and beyond the classroom.

The Middle School years, underpinned by the core principles of Aspire, Explore and Belong, provide an ideal time for students to discover interests, cultivate passions, and continue to grow as confident learners and individuals.

Families are encouraged to explore the What’s On, Term 1 document to discover the wide range of co-curricular and enrichment opportunities on offer, and to support their young person in becoming involved in activities that spark curiosity and excitement.

We love reading at City

Developing a love of reading from a young age is one of the most valuable gifts we can give our students. In the Middle School, students are expected to complete a minimum of 75 minutes of reading each week, which equates to approximately 15 minutes per day across five days.

Students are required to record their reading in their Middle School diary, with entries signed by a parent or carer. Families are encouraged to engage in regular conversations with their child about what they are reading, helping to foster comprehension, reflection and enjoyment of texts.

Our Middle School library offers a wide and diverse collection of reading materials to suit a range of interests and abilities. Students are strongly encouraged to borrow books during their timetabled library sessions.

Year 5 Camp – Phillip Island

Year 5 students recently returned from a wonderful three-day camp at Phillip Island, where they embraced new challenges, strengthened friendships and created lasting memories. The camp program offered a diverse range of activities, including the flying fox, giant swing, archery, low ropes, canoeing, surfing and a visit to A Maze’N Things.

Beyond the excitement of the activities themselves, the true highlight of the camp was the personal growth demonstrated by the students. Throughout the experience, they developed greater independence, resilience and confidence, while deepening their relationships with both peers and staff.
