Welcome back to Term 4

It was a joy to welcome all our students, staff and families back to City campus for our final term of 2025. Our students were excited to see their friends and be back learning with their brilliant teachers. We were delighted to have our marketing team capture the wonderful experience on our ‘Welcome back to Term 4 at Haileybury City’ video. I am reliably told by our young folk that it is ‘trending’!

Uniform

The first two weeks of the summer term allow flexibility between uniforms, depending upon the Melbourne weather. Week 3 requires all students to be in their full summer uniform. Please also ensure the black sports or sun hats are named and at school.

Early Learning Centre

Exploring insects through line and observation

Learning about insects and their habitats through line art offered the Reception children a creative pathway to understand the natural world. As they illustrated the different features, including wings, antennae and environments, they developed their fine motor skills and attention to detail. This experience encouraged observation, curiosity and a deeper appreciation for the role insects play in ecosystems. Through each intentional line, children developed artistic skills and gained a meaningful insight into the world around them.

Fostering connections with Year 3 students

As part of our transition program, the Pre-Preps engaged in a collaborative art activity with the Year 3 students. Together with Ms Moorby, the children created self-portraits of one another, describing each other’s features and learning about one another’s interests, including our favourite games.

Through these shared creative tasks, the children worked thoughtfully, with the Year 3s acting as positive role models, demonstrating leadership, empathy and patience. It was a highlight of the day in the ELC, as meaningful friendships began to form across year levels.

This valuable experience marked an important step in easing the transition, fostering a sense of belonging, and building confidence as the Pre-Preps prepare for their next chapter at Haileybury.

Junior School

Cross country

In the final weeks of Term 3, the sun was shining on Flagstaff Gardens for our Junior School Cross Country event. We are proud of the sportsmanship, perseverance and House spirit demonstrated throughout the afternoon, as students wended their way through the gardens and hills. It was wonderful to have our families cheering their children on from the sidelines, which included some exciting photo finishes and draws between students. Thank you to the Haileybury Parents and Friends Committee for supporting our athletes with a bag of lollies at the finish line. All children received a ribbon presented by Mrs Merrick, and our students who ran first to fourth received a special cross-country ribbon. Congratulations to Elliot House for winning the Cross Country trophy.

Footy Colours Day

Ahead of the 2025 AFL Grand Final, the Junior School was awash with team colours from a variety of sporting codes to celebrate Footy Colours Day. We had local, national and international teams celebrated from Men’s and Women’s sporting codes. Our Year 4 Social Justice Captains ensured the event continued to raise awareness for those in need, and we were proud to raise funds for the City Mission Charity. During the day, the Junior School made a life-sized graph, with Collingwood and Essendon being the most popular AFL Clubs represented in our Junior School. Our Year 4 Sports Captains brought AFL footballs and soccer balls to Flagstaff Gardens for students to engage in a range of games such as handballing, marking and mini games.

Term 4

We were delighted to welcome back our students to the Junior School for their final term of the 2025 school year. Thank you to all Junior School families for a smooth transition to routines. This term, students are required to wear their full summer uniform, including the white wide-brimmed hat or magenta cap to and from School. During outdoor play and learning, students are also required to wear their black hat, which remains at School each day. Term 4 is always filled with events, and this year is no exception. We encourage families to keep an eye on Key Dates throughout the term.

Middle School

Year 7 zoo excursion

In Term 4, our Year 7 students explored the fascinating topic of ecology in Science. To deepen their understanding, they attended an excursion to Melbourne Zoo as part of Zoos Victoria’s Fighting Extinction Schools Program. During the visit, students honed their observation and classification skills, examined animal adaptations, and learnt about the challenges species face in the wild. This hands-on experience encouraged students to consider the vital role humans play in protecting and conserving wildlife for future generations.

Year 5 bee visit to Berwick campus

Our Year 5 students recently visited the Berwick campus to learn more about the fascinating world of bees and honey production. This experience supported their Science studies on bees as pollinators and their vital role in our ecosystems. Students explored the process of honey production, discovered how bees contribute to biodiversity, and even had the opportunity to taste fresh Berwick honey.

Years 5/6 Dance Team

Our talented Years 5 and 6 Dance Team has been working tirelessly throughout the year in preparation for their spring competition. The group performed two stunning routines, a lyrical and a jazz piece, demonstrating both technical skill and artistic expression. Their dedication, teamwork and stage presence shone through as they captivated the audience with their energy and passion.

House Arts Competition

City Middle School came alive with creativity and friendly rivalry during our annual House Arts Competition. Students showcased their talents across a range of artistic disciplines including Music, Art, Drama and Dance. Musicians performed vibrant vocal pieces, artists designed sets and costumes, dramatists brought favourite scenes to life and dancers choreographed expressive routines. The afternoon was filled with laughter, energy and House spirit, celebrating the incredible artistic talent within our school community.
