The new Year 10 at HRS from 2026
In 2026, Haileybury Rendall School is very excited to be completely refreshing our Year 10 entry year. After carefully listening to student, parent and staff voice we are now launching some of the wonderful things that lie ahead for our Year 10s.
HRS has already established a positive culture where students feel safe and connected, where every student matters every day and where we genuinely care about each other. On top of that we attract the best teachers from around Australia, many of whom teach across Years 10–12.
Students who graduate through our Senior School automatically become members of the OHA with over 23,000 members in all corners of the world. Regarded as one of the leading post-secondary school organisations in Australia, the OHA provides mentors, careers advice and especially help finding that first job. They also host regular reunions, functions and events for all alumni, including a chapter here in Darwin. Recently, the OHA has introduced a significant relocation bursary for all HRS graduates who wish to relocate to university study outside Darwin.
Overseas experiences are well and truly back on the radar post COVID-19 with more flights opening up out of Darwin airport. A feature of the HRS desire to be a great world school will see the introduction of the Cambodia Challenge in April 2026. A large group of students will have the chance to travel to Phnom Penh and Siem Reap and see some great world monuments such as Angkor Wat and Ta Prohm (Tomb Raider). A highlight of the trip will be the immersive Cambodian village experience with the Husk Organisation where students will get to teach English and build a house in an impoverished village.
A feature of the year will be our third Study Tours to China where students have the opportunity to visit the wonderful cultural attractions of Beijing, including the Great Wall of China, the Forbidden Palace and the Summer Gardens. Apart from immersing in local culture with great dining and activities the students also spend two days at Haileybury Tianjin, joining in classes, mixing with new buddies and playing in sporting activities.
Great new facilities are expected to include our most significant facility yet with the completion of the multi-purpose Games Hall during 2026. The complex will be fully air-conditioned and feature a full-size basketball court along with change rooms, office spaces and storage. Available to both day students and boarders, seven days a week, the space will also be used for House events, assemblies, examinations, meetings and rehearsals. The complex will be built just north of the current blue courts.
Complementing this for learning activities will be the complete refurbishment of the old
Automotive Centre which will become HRS’s first Innovation Hub. The space will be renovated and air-conditioned and will be opened out with design, technology, creative equipment, modern facilities and machines. This will allow the introduction of new subjects and electives through 2026, especially for Middle School and Year 10 students. We are keen to introduce subjects relating to entrepreneurship and enterprise and this facility will be a key part of our steps forward.
The brand-new HRS Media Studio has also just opened in Term 4 2025 and with the latest video and streaming technology will open up new electives for Year 10 students, as well as clubs and courses for students. This will allow students to learn film making and editing as well as producing videos of the highest quality to support the School’s social media expansion and enhance learning.
There are many more great initiatives underway. A great time to be learning at HRS.
