Campus News

A strong start to the school year

We have had a very smooth start to the school year, and it has been wonderful to see so many happy students back at school and excited about the year ahead. Our new students are already feeling settled, as the Edrington community has so warmly welcomed them.

Student Leaders

Congratulations to all our newly elected student leaders. I look forward to the contribution they will make to our School this year.

NAPLAN

We look forward to our Years 3, 5 and 7 students completing the National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN), commencing on Wednesday, 11 March. NAPLAN assesses students’ knowledge and skills in writing, reading, conventions of language (spelling, grammar and punctuation) and numeracy. The results provide valuable information for students, parents, teachers and our leadership team, and are used to highlight strengths and support ongoing improvement in student learning.

Early Learning Centre

Settling in

The first few weeks of a new school year are an exciting and important time for our Reception and Pre-Prep children. As they settle into their new classrooms, routines and expectations, our focus during the first four to five weeks is helping every child feel safe, secure and confident in their new environment.

Starting school or moving into a new class can bring a mix of emotions. During this transition period, building positive connections with teachers and peers is essential. Strong, trusting relationships help children feel comfortable to explore, ask questions, take risks and develop independence. When children feel known and valued, they are far more ready to engage in a variety of learning.

Teachers spend this time getting to know each child holistically, recognising that children develop in different ways and at different rates. This includes understanding each child’s social and emotional development, communication and language skills, physical development, learning behaviours, interests, strengths and individual needs. Alongside this, teachers support children to form friendships and practise important social skills such as sharing, turn-taking and communication. These early interactions lay the foundation for cooperation, resilience and a strong sense of belonging within the classroom community.

By prioritising relationships and a holistic understanding of each child in these first weeks, we are setting children up for a happy, confident and successful year of learning ahead. Thank you for supporting this important settling-in process at home.

Middle School production

After much anticipation and excitement, we are thrilled to announce that our 2026 Middle School musical will be Madagascar. With catchy songs and beloved characters, it is sure to be a hit with both performers and audiences. Auditions have begun, and we look forward to sharing the announcement of our cast soon.

Girls Night In

On Friday, 27 February, the GMS will be holding our annual Girls Night In from 3.30 pm – 8.00 pm. Students will take part in a K-pop dance session, party games and other fun activities. This night raises money for the World’s Greatest Shave, which is run by Leukaemia Foundation Australia to support people living with blood cancer. Several Year 8 students have generously volunteered to cut their hair in support of this event. We encourage all our families to help this great cause by visiting Edrington’s fundraising page: World's Greatest Shave - Haileybury Girls Middle School - Edrington.

Every contribution makes a real difference.
