STEM Week
In Term 3, Week 4, Haileybury Pangea celebrated STEM Week 2025. Students engaged in a dynamic program of activities designed to spark curiosity and creativity. Highlights included hands-on sessions like paper tricks with Ms Carey, bracelet making with Ms Short, and custom font design with Mrs Degorski. Recess and lunch events featured STEM trivia, chess club, and inspiring guest speakers including Professor Jamie Evans from the University of Melbourne, atmospheric scientist Mr Peter Degorski, and Deputy Head of Digital Ms Gannon. A standout experience was the live virtual excursion with Scitech and the Australian Space Agency, offering Years 5 and 6 students a glimpse into space science. The week concluded with the STEM Innovation Pitch, led by Ms Haravitsidis, showcasing students’ entrepreneurial ideas. STEM Week 2025 was a resounding success, and we congratulate students and staff for their contributions to these events.
Chess Club
In Term 3, 2025, Haileybury Pangea proudly launched its first student-led Chess Club, thanks to the initiative of Year 10 student Cooper. Cooper collaborated with Curious Minds Coordinator Mrs Degorski and the Digital Learning team to bring his vision to life, creating a space where students from Years 5 to 10 could connect, compete and grow their strategic thinking skills.
The club meets weekly and has quickly become a popular lunchtime activity. One of its most innovative features is the use of custom-designed virtual chessboards, created by students themselves.
The Chess Club reflects the spirit of student leadership and cross-year collaboration at Haileybury Pangea and is a testament to how curiosity and initiative can build lasting communities.
