A landmark new report has also recognised our school as the leading private school in Victoria, and ranks Haileybury number two in the country overall.

To compile the inaugural Australia’s Top 100 Private Schools list, created by News Corp, more than 20 different metrics were analysed. These included academic results and achievements across the school, NAPLAN and ATAR results, student-teacher ratios, the breadth of subjects available to students, the range of facilities, and the depth of each school’s co-curricular activities and sports programs.

With more than 1,200 private schools operating across Australia, Haileybury’s position as the country’s leading co-educational school and being ranked second overall is a significant achievement.

“The independent school sector is a really dynamic sector, so to be ranked at the top private school of the co-educational sector and second overall in Australia, amongst some very fine schools who are working with great educators, is a great honour and a privilege,” says Haileybury CEO | Principal, Derek Scott.

Haileybury’s high ranking in Australia’s Top 100 Private Schools list recognises a number of elements including the school’s focus on evidence-based teaching practices, particularly in literacy and numeracy.

“Building strong literacy and numeracy skills in turn leads to strong overall outcomes for student”

Haileybury’s Parallel Education model is also a key part of the school’s impressive academic results each year. Students learn together from Years 1 to 4 while in Years 5 to 12, students remain part of a co-educational campus and share lunchbreaks and recess as well as co-curricular activities and events. However, they work in single-sex classrooms during the years that are recognised as key developmental stages of the school journey.

Diversity and inclusiveness are also important to the success and wellbeing of Haileybury’s 5,300 students in Melbourne, as well as those at Haileybury Rendall School in Darwin.

“Approximately 46% of our students speak a language other than English at home and we have students from 60 different ethnic backgrounds. We’re an incredibly diverse community and we celebrate that and strive for excellence,” says Mr Scott.

Australia’s Top 100 Private Schools list recognises the diversity in Australia’s private school sector and recognises the many schools who are doing a fine job and offering choice to families across the states and territories.

‘I’d like to congratulate all the schools on the list and also extend a heartfelt thank you to the educators, staff, students and families who are part of the Haileybury community. Your efforts have helped our school be the great world school that it is today.’
