Final Performance Preparations
During the recent holiday and the break from formal classes, VCE Music students completed final rehearsals for their upcoming Unit 4 Performance examinations. For most students, the exams will take place in the second week of term.
Students must present a 25-minute recital program to a panel of external VCAA assessors. The exams represent a significant highpoint in the musical journey of these elite students, most of whom began instrumental lessons at Haileybury in Junior School.
Across their developmental journey, these students will have likely received 300 instrumental lessons and attended over 500 ensemble rehearsals. Despite the interruption of COVID-19, most students have performed to thousands of people at more than 100 concerts.
Like most long-term pursuits, the journey won’t always have been smooth. At times, students may have felt like quitting, or felt like they weren’t progressing as much as their peers.
This year, like every year, we have had a diverse range of instrumental and stylistic disciplines within the VCE Music cohort. This includes: violin, viola, contemporary voice, piano, electric bass, acoustic bass, drumkit, classical guitar, flute, electric guitar, bassoon, percussion and saxophone.
I know the music staff are extremely proud of our 2022 cohort. They have been an outstanding group of young adults to work with.
