One of the most pressing and significant challenges facing students and their families is how to navigate the digital world safely and responsibly. To support this initiative, Haileybury is launching Safe Online Actions and Relationships (SOAR), a wellbeing program consisting of a holistic Cyber Safety and Wellbeing Toolkit for our families.
One of the most pressing and significant challenges facing students and their families is how to navigate the digital world safely and responsibly. In support of families, the Federal Government is implementing age restrictions on social media platforms for people aged under 16 years. Haileybury fully supports this action which comes into effect on 10 December 2025.
To support this initiative, Haileybury is launching Safe Online Actions and Relationships (SOAR), a wellbeing program consisting of a holistic Cyber Safety and Wellbeing Toolkit for our families, with 24-hour access to expert videos, advice and curated resources. Informed by the latest research and developed with input from psychologists, academics and educators, the toolkit is designed to help our students lead safe, respectful and responsible lives online.
To see first-hand how we are working together as a community to help and empower families to navigate the online world safely, please join us for the online launch of SOAR on Tuesday, 25 November 2025, at 5.00 pm. A registration link is provided below for this online event.
Haileybury is purposefully releasing this toolkit to coincide with the Australian Government’s new age restrictions on social media platforms. We will continue to enhance the offerings available within the toolkit, including the introduction of online cyber safety modules that parents can complete.
The School will continue to develop the Managed Device Program to help students use technology responsibly.
As a school we are committed to partnering with families to promote the digital wellbeing of young people in our care, and in assisting our families to feel confident, safe and empowered in an increasingly digital world.
I look forward to seeing you online at our launch on Tuesday, 25 November 2025, at 5.00 pm.

Dance Spring Challenge
On Sunday 19th October, our Year 5 and 6 dancers had an incredible day at the 2025 Dance Star Spring Challenge. Across all campuses, students delivered outstanding performances, demonstrating not only skill and precision, but also sportsmanship, teamwork, and resilience. We are incredibly proud of the dedication and effort they showed both on and off stage.
This year, Haileybury celebrated the success of 7 teams who medalled, with every campus receiving at least one medal. Congratulations to all our dancers, not only for their achievements on stage, but for the support, confidence, and kindness they showed towards their teammates throughout the day. It was a truly inspiring and memorable experience for everyone involved.
We are also deeply grateful to our coaches and coordinators, whose leadership, creativity, and guidance make these accomplishments possible. Your dedication and passion help our students thrive and bring routines to life.

A Remarkable Year for Haileybury's Music Program
2025 has been another outstanding year for the Instrumental Music Department. It’s been immensely rewarding to see our students, families, and staff continue their shared journey of creativity, discipline, and artistic growth. The enthusiasm, commitment, and musical achievement displayed throughout the year have been nothing short of inspiring.
Haileybury now proudly supports more than 1,200 students receiving weekly instrumental lessons — a milestone that reflects the strength and reputation of our program. Demand remains exceptionally high, with many instruments now operating on waitlists. Families considering lessons in 2026 are encouraged to explore the Instrumental Music Handbook early to secure a place.
Across every campus, music continues to be a vibrant and visible part of daily school life. It’s common to see students carrying instruments to and from rehearsals, concerts, and classes — a wonderful reminder of how deeply embedded music is in Haileybury culture.
1/4
In the Senior School, the highlights of 2025 have included stunning performances at the Twilight Concert, Aria Night, Concerto Concert, Haileybury in Concert, Jazz Nights and Chamber in the Chapel.
Our Middle School musicians once again impressed audiences at the Term 2 Concert Series, where large and enthusiastic crowds witnessed exceptional performances. In addition to these large multi instrument family concerts each instrumental department also held smaller concerts that were able to focus on their particular instrumental discipline.
At the Junior School level, events such as the combined Scrolls String Concerts highlighted the energy and promise of our youngest musicians. Their performances reflected both the outstanding teaching of our string department and the joy that music brings to early learning. The final String Department concert, the Whole School Year 2 String Recital, is set to take place on the afternoon of November 24. I know this concert will be filled with enthusiasm and energy.
We now look forward to rounding out the year with our traditional Haileybury Carols at St Paul’s Cathedral, a celebration of community and culture that marks the close of another successful year. Families are warmly invited to join us on December 10 for an evening of beautiful music and festive spirit — a fitting finale to 2025.
Congratulations and thank you to every student, parent, and staff member who has contributed to another exceptional year of music at Haileybury.

Visual Arts
Congratulations to the students of 2025
A huge congratulations to all Unit 3/4 Visual Arts students who have completed their VCAA final exams in recent days. We are so proud of your dedication, creativity, and growth throughout the year. We look forward to hearing about your next steps and encourage you to stay in touch as you continue your creative journeys.
Congratulations also to our Year 9 and Unit 1/2 students who have ended the 2025 academic year with exceptional folio work and examination results. Across Art, Design, and Media, students have shown impressive development in their ability to think critically, write insightfully, and express ideas visually.
A special mention goes to Zoe (Year 12, 2025), who has been invited to exhibit a selection of works from her Art Making and Exhibiting final series with the Koori Heritage Trust. Zoe’s collages are a powerful layering of “memory, identity, and truth-telling, interweaving family photographs, archival texts, maps, and letters to reflect on personal and collective histories of First Nations people”. As a proud Bidjara artist, Zoe’s work “weaves fragments into a unified narrative. The use of black, white and sepia tones evoke time passing, while painted motifs connect past and present, sharing the many layers of what has come before her and asking viewers to consider their own story”.
Junior and Middle School end of year exhibitions
The recent Castlefield Junior and Middle School Visual Arts Exhibition held earlier this month, and the upcoming Edrington, Newlands and City Exhibitions are a proud celebration of creativity, imagination, and the power of visual expression. Showcasing a diverse range of artworks across drawing, sculpture, design, and digital media, these exhibitions highlight the depth of learning taking place in our classrooms.
Students have explored real-world connections and collaborative projects, developing their own ideas and transforming them into beautifully resolved artworks. Each piece reflects curiosity, skill, and personal meaning, a true testament to the importance of Visual Arts in fostering critical thinking, problem-solving, and emotional wellbeing.
These exhibitions are more than displays; they are celebrations of student voice and the creative journey that happens when young artists are encouraged to take risks and express themselves.
Please come along and celebrate our younger students’ creativity:
Edrington: Friday 21 November
Newlands: Thursday 27 November
City: Wednesday 3 December

Looking ahead to 2026
Welcome to our new 2026 cohorts as we hit the ground running for Term 1A. As you head into the summer break, here are some tips to make the most of your creative studies and prepare for a strong start to the new year:
Stay sensitive to your surroundings: Notice details, colours, textures, and light in the environments around you.
Develop good folio habits early: Keep visual and written records of your ideas, inspirations, and processes.
Engage with the creative landscape: Visit galleries, exhibitions, and cultural events in Melbourne and beyond.
Practice regularly: Dedicate time to making, experimenting, and refining skills – not just as study, but as a way to live well and find the ‘flow’ that fuels creativity and wellbeing.
Join the 2026 Art Collective
Calling all creators, curators, and big-picture thinkers! The Art Collective is a vibrant, student-led group open to anyone passionate about the visual arts – whether you study Art Making and Exhibiting, Media, or Visual Communication Design, or simply love being creative. Invitations will soon be sent through class announcements for students in Years 9–12 to join the Senior School Visual Arts Collective, and application information will be included for those looking to develop their leadership skills in this space.
From curating exhibitions and planning school-wide art events to creating murals and running competitions, the Collective brings together students who want to make and celebrate art – together. Led by our Art Captains and Vice Captains (applications welcome from Term1A, due by Mon 1st December), but open to everyone across campuses (including Pangea), this is your space to collaborate, contribute, and leave your creative mark. Keep an eye out for the coming announcements or chat with any Visual Arts staff for more details.
Visual Arts Societies - Summer Season Launch
We’re excited to announce the launch of our new Visual Arts Societies, now up and running for the summer season!
This year, we welcome the inaugural groups of the Photography and Architecture Societies, and also the Set Design Society – a dynamic collaboration between Visual Arts and Performing Arts.
Led by passionate staff, these societies offer students a chance to explore their interests, learn about creative industries, and develop new practical skills. We can’t wait to showcase their discoveries and creations in Term 1. Here’s an example of the introductory typology task explored by the Photography Society in the weeks leading towards exams as they got to know the cameras: Nine distinct subjects - all linked by the common characteristic of shape - were photographed by the students. These images were then purposefully arranged into a grid. This comparative format allows for a focused study of their similarities and differences, revealing the visual power that repetition and form hold in composition.

Pipes & Drums
Pipes & Drums farewell our Year 12 Graduates
The Haileybury Pipes & Drums were once again honoured to perform at the Year 12 Boys’ and Girls’ Graduation Ceremonies. The band proudly marched the graduates out of Aikman Hall for the final time — a moment filled with emotion, pride, and tradition, marking the end of an important chapter for the Class of 2025.
Our two Pipes Leaders, Pipe Major Brandon
and Pipe Sergeant Hamish, also had the honour of performing as lone pipers to open the Valedictory Dinner celebrations. Their stirring renditions set a reflective and celebratory tone for the evening. It was a privilege for the Pipes & Drums to be involved in the Valedictory dinners for the very first time, an opportunity that highlighted the growing presence and importance of the band within the Haileybury community.
Pipes Tutor Tom Perry (OHA 2016)
performed as Haileybury’s lone piper at the Pangea Graduation, providing a moving musical farewell that beautifully captured the spirit of the occasion. His performance served as a powerful reminder of the role music plays in connecting generations of Haileyburians.
The Haileybury Pipes & Drums competition bands are now in full preparation for their first contest of the season — the Daylesford Highland Gathering on 6 December. This much-anticipated event will mark the debut of several new competition players, who have joined the ranks with great enthusiasm and dedication. The band is working hard to refine its performances and is looking forward to representing Haileybury with pride at this historic gathering.
Haileybury Pipers join World Record attempt
Haileybury’s talented pipers proudly joined musicians from all over Australia at Federation Square for an unforgettable world record attempt! A total of 374 pipers came together to form the largest-ever bagpipe ensemble, playing AC/DC’s iconic anthem ‘It’s a Long Way to the Top (If You Wanna Rock ’n’ Roll)’. What an incredible experience to be part of history and celebrate the power of music with the wider community.

Remembrance Day
Remembrance Day is observed annually on 11 November, providing an opportunity for our community to honour and reflect on the sacrifices made by servicemen and women in times of conflict. This year, due to inclement weather, the service was held in individual classrooms where students and staff gathered for a ceremony that included a minute of silence. Throughout the day, wreaths were laid to commemorate those who have served and continue to serve our country. At the base of our flagpole, crosses were placed for young Haileyburians who served and died over a century ago and students had the opportunity to lay flowers within the cross as a sign of respect. It was a poignant reminder of the importance of peace and gratitude within our school community.
Year 8 Graduation
On Friday, 14 November we hosted a Graduation Assembly and Afternoon Tea for the Year 8 cohort as they graduated from Middle School. We are proud of the students and their achievements, and the assembly was the formal conclusion to their Middle School experience. We wish our Year 8 students every success as they commence their time in Pre-Senior from Monday, 17 November.
As our Year 8 students embark on their Pre-Senior journey, this milestone serves as a testament to their dedication and growth throughout Middle School. The support and encouragement from families and staff have been invaluable, helping each student reach their full potential. We look forward to seeing them thrive in new academic and social opportunities, confident that they will contribute positively to our school community and beyond.
Community Matters
Throughout 2025, Year 6 students have been visiting the Castlefield Community Centre to participate in their Intergenerational Friday Morning program with some of the wonderful Bailey House residents. It is such a rewarding experience for everyone involved. Our students joined in a variety of activities, including colouring, singing, games and some fun dance moves, bringing smiles and joy to all. We were so proud of our Year 6s; they made an effort to connect and engage compassionately with all the residents and, in turn, developed their own confidence and communication skills.
UpDay
On Tuesday, 18 November, all students will transition to their 2026 classes for the day. This will provide an opportunity to become familiar with their new classroom, area of the school, classmates and teachers.
Please note that casual attire and runners are required to accommodate any sporting activities that may be scheduled.

The Learning Journey continues
The ELC students have begun to explore and spend time in their learning environments for 2026. The Reception children have been mixing with each other and getting to know the Pre-Prep spaces and educators, and the Pre-Prep children have spent time in the Junior School during planned visits to the Prep classrooms. This is an exciting time as children build new relationships and their sense of belonging in the next steps of their learning journey. Familiarity can build a sense of security and togetherness as the children look forward to moving into their 2026 classes.
We look forward to welcoming all 2026 Reception and Pre-Prep students to our ELC orientation day on Saturday, 22 November, when they will meet their educators and explore their learning environments.
We're going to the Zoo
As part of the ongoing focus on connecting children with the natural world, the Pre-Preps recently enjoyed an excursion to the Melbourne Zoo. Children engaged their senses and imaginations as they encountered wildlife and explored ways to care for animals and the environment. The program encouraged curiosity, connection and custodianship, inspiring our children to develop a lifelong love and care for nature and local wildlife.
Back in the classroom, these experiences have been extended through storytelling, creative arts, small world play, and ongoing inquiry projects, that allow children to reflect, revisit and build upon their zoo discoveries, strengthening their knowledge and sense of responsibility as environmental caretakers.
Junior School
Halloween Disco
Our fabulous parents ran a Halloween spectacular for our ELC and Junior School students. With games and glow stations, dancing and dress ups, our students went from a DJ run disco in the hall to a scavenger hunt on the oval. Little ghosts and ghouls made the most of the perfect weather conditions with a sausage sizzle and time with their friends and families in the East Quad.
Welcoming our Year 12 students
It is a fabulous thing to welcome our leaving Year 12 students back to the Junior School, to where it all began for many of them. The homemade ties are something they remember making and it is a full circle moment when it is your turn to have one placed around your neck. The Prep children performed on stage to wild applause and even received a standing ovation. For the first time we had a Prep student perform to her graduating brother.
Prep Transition
The Castlefield campus is the only campus with an intake year from Prep. We move from two Pre-Prep classes to three Prep classes, welcoming about twenty-five new families into the fold each year. Over three mornings the children are hosted in the Prep classrooms whilst parents attend sessions with key Junior School leaders. We understand the importance of a slow and meaningful transition and time to create connections with teachers and students.
Middle School
Finishing the year with pride and purpose
It is a busy and exciting time in Middle School as our Years 7 and 8 students prepare for their end-of-year exams. These assessments give students the opportunity to reflect on their learning, demonstrate their progress, and finish the academic year with pride and confidence. Alongside exam preparation, our campus has been buzzing with energy as we have hosted a range of fun and engaging House activities that continue to bring students together through teamwork and friendly competition. Our Year 8 students are also preparing to celebrate their Graduation. It is a special milestone as they farewell Middle School and look ahead to new opportunities in Senior School. It is a wonderful reminder for all students to make the most of every experience our school offers, from co-curricular activities and sport to learning, creativity and friendships. The end of the year is the perfect time to reflect, show gratitude and finish strong. In Middle School, we always strive to work hard, be kind and try new things. These values help shape not just great learners, but great people. Let us keep that spirit alive as we finish the year with enthusiasm, effort and a sense of pride in being part of this amazing community.

Endings and beginnings
At City, we love celebrating our transitions. As we reflect on the growth at each age and at every stage of learning, we look forward to what awaits us in the next phase. For our Year 12 students, it has been wonderful to see them on Level 8, studying in the lead up to each of their VCE exams. They have worked hard and are focused.
Our Years 7 and 8 were hard at work in the lead up to exams and their results and feedback from their teachers have helped them better understand how to effectively study in the future. These lessons are all part of the learning journey. Our Year 8s have proudly graduated Middle School and started Term 1A in Year 9, which we call Pre-Senior.
Our Year 4 students are eagerly anticipating joining Girls and Boys Middle Schools, as are the students in Pre-Prep about the wonderful learning that awaits them in the Junior School.
We look forward to celebrating these transition points together with our City families in the coming weeks.
Celebration of Excellence
Our annual Celebration of Excellence (formerly known as Speech Night) is fast approaching and will be held on Friday, 28 November. All Middle School students will attend, and we look forward to a night celebrating excellence in all facets of our Haileybury program. If Junior School students attend, they should wear their Haileybury School uniform. Details are on the app.

Our animal habitat creations!
Reception continues to learn about animals and their habitats by investigating the natural environment. To bring their discoveries to life, the children have been creating dioramas showing different habitats, including jungles, deserts, oceans and forests. With shoe boxes, paint, playdough and natural materials, the children built homes for their favourite animals and talked about how different weather affects where animals live. This ongoing project has helped our children learn new vocabulary, develop fine motor skills and express their creativity. Most of all, they had so much fun sharing their dioramas with their peers.
What a wonderful way to learn through play and develop our imagination.
Board games in action!
The Pre-Preps have been enjoying classic games such as Connect 4, Snakes and Ladders, Snail Race and UNO as a fun and engaging way to learn. These games provide wonderful opportunities to practise number counting, number recognition, and important social skills such as taking turns and showing good sportsmanship.
Through play, children develop patience, strategic thinking and cooperation, as well as having fun with their friends. These playful experiences help build strong foundations for future learning and positive interactions.
Sun safety in the ELC
As the weather is warming up and the sun is shining, it is important to protect our children’s skin. Throughout the day, educators will support your child to reapply sunscreen, however, children should have sunscreen applied before they arrive at the ELC. A daily UV rating, as stated by the SunSmart app, is displayed in the ELC foyer to ensure sun safety is part of our daily routine.

Junior School sport in action
The Junior School students were delighted to showcase their PE skills to families during our Junior School Sport in Action at Ron Barassi Park. Students rotated through a series of sports games including soccer, rugby and AFL skills, as well as relays and obstacle courses. Being cheered on and supported by families throughout the sunny afternoon was a wonderful way to celebrate sport in the Junior School. The students were delighted to be treated to a cupcake from the Haileybury Parents and Friends Committee during the event too.
Future Leaders Day
Haileybury City Campus was proud to host the Year 3 students from Castlefield, Newlands and Edrington for the Future Leaders Day. Beginning the morning on Level 9, the students heard about key leadership skills and qualities from current Year 8 Middle School Captains, Oscar and Mavis, as well as hearing from members of the Old Haileyburian community, Billy Si and Kiara Borgonha. The cohorts explored skills of communication, resilience and fun with a progressive dance class run by Kyle from Kinect2Dance on the City Campus’s Level 2 Performing Arts Floor. Our Year 3s engaged in a range of team-building and code-breaking activities on site, before crossing to Flagstaff Gardens to enjoy the city’s lovely weather. The day enabled our Year 3s to learn about key attributes necessary for effective leadership, preparing them to be leaders of the Junior School in 2026 at their own campuses.
Scrolls
The City and Newlands Scrolls String Recital took place at Aikman Hall earlier this term. The students from Years 3 and 4 cross-campus ensemble came together to perform Wilam: A Birrarung Story led by Ms Tania Casey and Ms Kim Ho. The City students were delighted to share the stage with their Newlands peers and performed a variety of songs to showcase each section of the ensemble. Thank you to the parents and siblings for attending the performance and cheering on their children.

Year 7 and 8 Examinations
Congratulations to our Years 7 and 8 students who have recently completed their examinations. This was a particularly momentous occasion for our Year 7 boys and girls as this was the first extensive examination period for them, but the first of many as they continue their schooling journey towards their VCE exams. These assessments allow our students to display the knowledge they have gained while equally important are the skills they learn and develop, such as creating their own notes, the importance of routine, chunking study into short sessions, developing the ideal study environment and setting study goals, that will further grow and hold them in good stead as they progress through Haileybury.
Post-exams celebrations
Following their examinations, our Years 7 and 8 students celebrated their hard work and had some well-deserved celebrations with activities planned by the Heads of Middle School. Students feasted at Queen Victoria Market, enjoyed a cinematic experience, undertook a leadership workshop, visited and dined in Chinatown and participated in House activities at Flagstaff Gardens. A highlight was the Year 8s venturing to Game Worlds playable exhibition at the Australian Centre for the Moving Image followed by lunch at Melbourne Central. Spanning over 50 years of play, Game Worlds features more than 30 videogames from the 1970s to today, with 44 playable moments, original builds, rare design materials and hands-on prototypes the students could not find anywhere else.
Wednesday was a cross-campus extravaganza as all Years 7 and 8s from across Haileybury came together at the Keysborough campus to view the very best of student enterprise and entrepreneurship at the StartUp Pitch Showcase. This event is the culmination of the Year 8 students’ work during Haileybury’s unique StartUp subject in which they create a business idea from scratch. The strongest concept from each campus was selected to compete in the StartUp Pitch Showcase. This was followed by a Colour Run which saw the students being showered in coloured powder by their teachers as they made their way around a 1.5km course. Cross-campus connections were further developed and plenty of fun was had.
Year 8 Graduation
We bid our Year 8 students farewell and wished them the very best as they concluded their final day in Middle School on Friday 14 November with their Year 8 Graduations. It was wonderful to hear from our Middle School Captains, Oscar and Mavis , who have been outstanding in their roles, leading by example and driving the culture of their respective schools, as they reflected on the time spent in Middle School by them and their peers. We acknowledge the positive impact the graduating Year 8s of 2025 have had on the Middle School at the City Campus and also recognise the contributions of their families, whose love, guidance and support, as well as their strong partnership with the School, has allowed their children to achieve their potential.

Grooving and 'fun'raising! Doing it for the kids
On Friday, 24 October, a gathering of Haileybury parents and friends, along with the Haileybury City Executive, came together on Level 2 to shine, sparkle and dance at our biggest event of the year.
We had a wonderful time with dinner, drinks, DJ, dancing, prizes, raffles and auctions, while raising funds for:
a scholarship for a student who would not otherwise attend our school.
student-led enhancements like ELC scooters, Junior School play equipment and Senior School microwaves.
The outfits were tremendous and the dancing was sublime (if we do say so ourselves), and even better, we raised around $7,000 in funds to support the HPF City goals.
We could not let the moment pass without a few happy snaps to share and showcase just how amazing the night was.
As co-presidents we would like to take the opportunity to express our gratitude to the following:
The staff who set up the night, run the night and pack it all down again. Without their support this event would not be possible.
Caroline Merrick, Head of Haileybury City Campus for ongoing support and collaboration.
The Haileybury Exec team who gave up their Friday night to come and ‘hang’ with City parents.
The HPF Executive members and social representatives who, as volunteers, take charge of the event prior to setup, and during the night to help bring the event together seamlessly and with ease.
A special call out to Tina Lee from Grown Florists in Moonee Ponds who arranged much of the decoration and balloon garlands to transform the event space.
The families, friends and businesses that donate the much-appreciated goods and items that are packaged into fantastic items for live and silent auctions , raffles and door prizes.
A special call out to: Shirley Family | Digenakis Family | Ho Family | Lee Family | Noone Uniform | Meyers Family |Garofalo Family | Copeland Family | White Family | OsteoStrong South Melbourne | Fader Family | Woolard Family | Brickville in Kensington | Fisher Family | Neele Family.
And all the anonymous donations – THANK YOU.
Finally, a big thank you to those families that bring the community together. We are grateful for your time, some extra funds and your dance moves and/or connection with us.

Farewells and new beginnings
It is the time of year that is filled with both farewells and new beginnings. Last week, we farewelled our Year 8 students and celebrated their Middle School Graduation, a milestone marking the end of one chapter and the beginning of their Pre-Senior journey which started today.
Tomorrow is Up Day, an exciting occasion when all students will spend the day with their 2026 teachers and classmates. Later this month, on Friday 28 November, our Year 4 students will graduate from Junior School and look ahead with enthusiasm to their first experience of Parallel Education.
Our Pre-Prep students and their parents are also preparing to say farewell to the familiar and much loved ELC environment as they take their next exciting step into Junior School.
We know all these students are well-equipped for the next stage of their educational journey, and we wish them every success as they move forward with confidence and excitement.

A busy and exciting time in the ELC
It has been a busy and exciting time in the ELC, with many fun and meaningful experiences taking place across both the Reception and Pre-Prep programs.
Over the past two weeks, the Pre-Prep children have begun their transition to Prep program. As part of this process, they have visited the Prep classrooms on two occasions, spending an hour each time becoming familiar with their new learning environment. They are all very excited for Up Day, when they will spend a longer period within Junior School.
Transitions are important milestones, as children adapt to new spaces, people, experiences, expectations and routines. It has been wonderful to see how confidently and positively the Pre-Prep children have embraced this next step in their educational journey.
The Reception children recently enjoyed a wonderful visit from our local CFA. Experiences that connect children with key people and services within their community provide rich opportunities for meaningful learning. The CFA visit offered engaging, hands-on experiences that fostered the children’s curiosity and deepened their appreciation for the world around them.
During the visit, our local CFA team spoke with the children about their important role in keeping the community safe and demonstrated the various tools and equipment carried on their fire truck. Of course, the highlight of the morning was hearing and seeing the lights and sirens in action.

Middle School
Our Years 7 and 8 students have now completed their end-of-year exams and are to be congratulated on their efforts. The work that goes into preparing these is immense, and we are proud of their positive approach. Thank you, also, to the teachers for their support of the students during this time.
Last week, we were excited to cheer on our talented team of Sunny , Bijou and Eira as they took part in the annual Pitch Event at Keysborough. These students competed against teams from other campuses in front of an audience of more than 600 people and a panel of judges and were awarded second place.
Following the event, our Years 7 and 8 students joined in a fun-filled Cross Campus Colour Run. This was a fantastic opportunity to celebrate, get active and enjoy time together as a Haileybury community.

Looking back in the ELC
As the term comes to an end, we take a moment to reflect on the delightful year that was. From welcoming resident fish into each classroom, visiting the Haileybury bees, embarking on IGA shopping excursions and enjoying a Victoria Police incursion, to meeting our Year 3 buddies and celebrating several cultural events, each experience has offered the children rich opportunities to learn, explore and connect with the world around them. Our Celebration of Learning was a wonderful way to mark this journey, with families joining us to explore the children’s learning journals. This experience allowed our children to revisit their favourite pages with their loved ones and share in the special memories that have shaped their year. We extend our heartfelt thanks to all our incredible families for your continued support, partnership and presence in our ELC community. As we head into the holidays, we wish everyone a joyful and restful break and send our very best wishes to the children moving on to Prep next year. We know they will continue to shine in the Junior School. For those families returning in 2026, we look forward to another fun-filled year of learning and discovery together.

Henny Penny Hatching Program!
We were thrilled to welcome an incursion that brought the wonders of nature directly into our Year 1 classrooms at Newlands. At the beginning of Term 4, our students had the incredible opportunity to participate in the Henny Penny Hatching program, a delightful and educational experience that introduced baby chickens to the suburbs.
This eleven-day incubation program, led by friendly and experienced Henny Penny Hatching staff, provided a captivating experience in a safe environment. The staff set up the program in our classrooms, making it completely hassle-free, with no mess, no fuss, just enjoyment and learning.
Students were able to watch eggs hatch in specially designed incubators and observe the chicks at play in large, clear-sided brooding pens. This hands-on experience complemented our science curriculum perfectly, as students explored life cycles and witnessed the miracle of life first-hand.
It was wonderful to see the joy, curiosity and excitement the baby chickens brought to our classrooms. This unique experience has become a memorable highlight of the term, enriching our students’ understanding of nature and science.
Year 2 Botanical Gardens excursion
Our Year 2 students recently embarked on a memorable excursion to the Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria in Cranbourne, where they explored the many physical, mental and emotional benefits of spending time outdoors. The Health and Wellbeing in Nature program invited students to connect with the natural world through playful, hands-on experiences that encouraged mindfulness and self-awareness.
Key elements of the program included learning to practice mindfulness in natural environments, discussing how different activities can influence emotions, and considering the importance of incorporating time in nature into daily life. By the end of the excursion, students not only gained a greater appreciation for the natural world but also a better understanding of how being in nature can support healthy habits and overall wellbeing.
This enriching experience highlighted the profound connection between nature and wellbeing, leaving students with lasting memories and insights into the benefits of caring for both themselves and their environment.

Haileybury Parents & Friends Keysborough (HPFK)
HPFK 2025
This year has been another fantastic one for the Haileybury Parents & Friends of Keysborough , filled with community connection and support across all areas of the School. Throughout the year, HPFK has proudly hosted and supported a range of events including the Stay and Play BBQ, coffee mornings, Father’s Day and Mother’s Day stalls, Pancake Days, the Senior School BBQ and petting zoo, and many other school activities that helped bring our community together.
As we approach the end of the year, preparations are well underway for two exciting milestone celebrations: the Year 4 Graduation Celebration and the Year 8 Graduation Celebration. These events mark special moments in our students’ Haileybury journeys, and we are thrilled to celebrate their achievements alongside their families.
HPFK is also proud to continue supporting the Year 7 HPFK Haileybury Foundation Scholarship, which provides valuable opportunities for a year 7 student starting their journey here at Haileybury. This initiative is made possible through the continued generosity and efforts of our volunteers, particularly those who dedicate their time to the HPFK Uniform Shop, with proceeds going directly towards the scholarship fund.
We extend a heartfelt thank-you to all our volunteers who have given their time, energy and enthusiasm throughout the year. Your support plays a vital role in fostering the sense of community that makes Haileybury so special, and HPFK could not achieve all that it does without you.
A record year for Haileybury Foundation. Thank you.
Thank you to our Haileybury community members for contributing to what has been an extraordinary year for Haileybury Foundation.
We are indebted to you all for the amazing support that you have provided to our students through our three funds: Building, Scholarship and Library.
Together we have achieved record numbers, supported the highest ever number of scholarships and achieved bigger than anticipated event attendances.
The following summarises a simply brilliant year.
In 2025, Haileybury Foundation has raised over $1million supporting students who otherwise would not have the opportunity to attend our School, as well as building projects at each campus.
We welcomed six new members into the 1892 Circle.
New donors in 2025 totalled 398.
Over 180 attendees had an extraordinary night at the annual Thank You event in Brighton in August.
During the year, six CEO|Principal luncheons were held, providing members of our community with updates on the future of our School as well as information on Haileybury Foundation and the School’s strategic plans.
Haileybury Foundation Scholarships were offered for the first time for students attending Haileybury Pangea. We were delighted to offer four scholarships for 2026.
A record number of Haileybury staff contributed to two Haileybury Foundation Workplace Giving Scholarships.
Over 30 members of the Haileybury community have joined the Winged Heart Society in confirming a future gift in will to Haileybury.
Thank you – you are making an extraordinary difference and changing lives forever.

OHA Golf Day: the biggest turnout to date and a sell out
A massive thank you to over 130 players who participated in this year’s OHA Golf Day at Southern Golf Club.
Congratulations to Haileybury Society member, Peter Seccull, who won the Hattam-Metherall Trophy (his second time, having previously won in 2013), and to our runner-up Richard Herman (OH 1985).
We also extend our applause to our winning group: Peter Seccull, Darren Seccull (OH 1983), Mark Seccull (OH 1986) and Alex Shepherd.
A special shoutout to Ian Herman (OH 1983) who was the Forty Years on winner, Rachel Kirkwood-Scott, the Ladies winner, Kevin O’Connor, our Staff winner and Durras Seccull (OH 2016), the Best Young Player.
We are incredibly grateful to Mercedes-Benz Berwick, Two Bays Brewing and KPA Lawyers for their generous sponsorship and to all the players for making it a memorable day.
Golden memories, new perspectives: Class of 1975 reunites
The Class of 1975 returned to the Keysborough campus in full voice and full spirit to celebrate their 50 year reunion. Laughter and stories echoed through the halls as old friends reconnected, some for the first time in decades. The morning included a guided school tour, and for many, it was a journey down memory lane. ‘Where are the lockers now?’ and ‘Where was the rifle range?’ were among the questions asked, accompanied by astonishment at the incredible changes that have transformed the campus since their school days.
The Brian “Weary” Clark Club Luncheon – a celebration of tradition and friendship
Nearly 200 Old Haileyburians came together for the much‑anticipated annual Brian “Weary” Clark Club Luncheon, a day for those who graduated 50 or more years ago and honouring the remarkable contribution of Mr Brian “Weary” Clark, who served on the Haileybury staff for 43 years. The event was made even more special as we welcomed the Class of 1975 into this cherished tradition, officially inducting them into the group, and Peter Gadsden’s (OH 1965) beautiful delivery of the Brian Clark oration.
The annual ‘Countdown’ was another highlight, celebrating Don Cumming (OH 1949) as the last man standing at 91 years young.
It was a heartwarming occasion that also honoured our oldest Haileyburians, whose presence reminded us of the enduring spirit and lifelong bonds forged at Haileybury. From catching up with old friends to sharing stories of days gone by, the luncheon perfectly captured the warmth, pride and enduring connections that define our alumni community.
The OHA hits the road
Over the past few months, we were delighted to reconnect with our interstate alumni at a series of fantastic events in Hobart, Sydney, Canberra, Perth and Brisbane. Each gathering was filled with warmth, laughter and shared memories, reminding us of the strong bonds that unite the Haileybury community across Australia. We are deeply grateful to our wonderful alumni for their enthusiasm and commitment to staying connected with us and with one another.
Once a Haileyburian, always a Haileyburian
OHA Ignite
The OHA Ignite program is a new initiative designed to support alumni who are founding or scaling their own ventures. Through the scheme, young OHA members gain access to seed funding, mentorship from experienced entrepreneurs within the alumni network, and the opportunity to connect with like-minded alumni founders and business leaders.
By aligning with Haileybury’s emphasis on enterprise and entrepreneurship, OHA Ignite aims to catalyse bold ideas from the alumni community, whether that means taking the first steps towards a start-up or accelerating an early-stage business. Mentors may be matched by industry expertise (finance, engineering, investment banking, etc.), and the program seeks both applicants and alumni mentors/supporters to participate.
As we reach the middle of Term 4 it is the perfect time to reflect on the wonderful sporting and House activities that have occurred at Haileybury Rendall School this year. Sport is incredibly popular in Darwin, despite the year-round heat and humidity, and is largely community-based rather than school-based. There simply are not enough schools of sufficient size to regularly form an inter-school competition of the likes of the APS and AGS in Melbourne.
Interestingly, Australian Rules football is played from October to March during the wet season so that cricket can be played across the very dry winter months. This is the opposite of sporting life in Melbourne, and some athletes from down south join Territory teams in their off-season to keep playing their favourite sports.
Basketball, soccer, netball, rugby, swimming, tennis, athletics and hockey are all very popular across the Top End, and the outstanding Marrara Sports Complex is the home for many of these sports. TIO stadium in Marrara is becoming quite famous for hosting Gold Coast Suns AFL Games and the Richmond versus Essendon AFLW Dreamtime match. International cricket was also recently played at that venue.
In 2025 at HRS there have been more opportunities than ever to pull on the magenta top and represent our School in basketball, winter netball and Australian Rules football. Many of our teams have reached the finals and some, like Middle School Girls football, have celebrated the ultimate success. Of course, the best part of playing sport for HRS is the opportunity to enjoy playing as part of a team with your friends while developing sportsmanship and skills at the same time.
This year our students have been involved in more sporting Gala Days across the top end than ever before. There have been almost 20 different sports available for our students across all three schools. This provides the opportunity to represent the School with pride and distinction.
House sports and competitions from Transition (Prep) right through to Year 12 have continued to grow in quantity and quality. Our Junior School students enjoy House competition every other Friday afternoon while our Secondary students regularly have the opportunity to get involved in lunchtime competitions. This year we moved Secondary House Cross Country to the East Point reserve and it was a beautiful morning to clock up some kilometres. House singing is now the favourite event for most in each part of the School.
Once again, the overall HRS House championship is very close this year and we look forward to finding out who has won the ultimate prize at the Celebration of Excellence.
Sports and House are such an important part of the fabric of our School where connection and belonging are so important to ensuring that every student matters every day.

Campus News
Haileybury Pangea celebrates the Class of 2025
Haileybury Pangea proudly marked a milestone on Friday, 17 October as the Class of 2025 marked their graduation in a beautiful ceremony at Haileybury’s Keysborough campus. Families, staff and students gathered to celebrate the achievements of our third graduating cohort.
The Valedictory Dinner featured inspiring speeches from school leaders and graduates, highlighting their resilience and adaptability. Graduates were commended for their academic and personal success and their ability to thrive in a program designed to prepare them for the future of work and study.
Special awards recognized outstanding contributions in leadership and service, while heartfelt messages from teachers and peers underscored the strong connections formed across diverse locations.
We thank our staff, families and students for their contributions to this special occasion.
End of year examinations As the academic year draws to a close, Haileybury Pangea students have been demonstrating their knowledge and skills through the examination period. For Years 7 to 11, these online exams provide an important opportunity to consolidate their learning, reflect on progress and prepare for the challenges ahead. Students have approached their exams with determination and resilience, supported by teachers who have guided them through revision strategies and time management techniques. We also acknowledge the tireless work of the Haileybury Digital Learning team and online assessment supervisors to ensure a smooth experience for students.
For those undertaking VCE Units 3 and 4 subjects, their VCE external examinations represent the culmination of years of study and play a significant role in shaping their future pathways. Teachers, support staff, parents and guardians have all rallied behind students to equip them to succeed in this intensive period.
Across all year levels, the examination period is not only a test of academic achievement but also of perseverance and personal growth. We celebrate the effort and commitment shown by students, and the steadfast support and dedication of staff. These experiences lay the foundation for continued success in 2026 and beyond.
Joanna Baker Head of Campus
Senior School
Examinations
VCE Unit 3 and 4 examinations will be completed on Wednesday, 19 November. All examinations for Years 9–11 subjects have also now been completed and returned to students. I would like to thank all students for the way they conducted themselves throughout the examination period and the teachers who marked examinations and provided feedback in a timely manner. It is, of course, important that all students reflect on their examination performance and begin to set some strong academic goals for next year. If you feel that your child needs any help with the process of goal setting, you should contact their relevant Head of Pre-Senior or Head of House in the first instance.
2026 Academic Year (Term 1A)
Haileybury’s 2026 academic year began on Monday, 17 November 2025, with all students beginning their 2026 classes. . In most cases, students began the day with the teacher who will take them throughout the year; however, in some instances teachers may change at the beginning of the new calendar year (January 2026). Haileybury does its best to limit these changes, but it is rare for teachers new to the school to be able to start in November of the previous school year. As such, some changes are unavoidable. Haileybury has been running this Term 1A program for 18 years as we believe that the extra teaching time provided gives our students a competitive advantage in their Units 3 and 4 studies in particular.
Year 12 2026 Transition Week
To conclude their year as Year 11s, our 2026 Year 12 cohort took part in a variety of transition sessions in preparation for the commencement of Term 1A. This group of students has experienced an incredibly challenging few years, so the week was an opportunity for the year level to come together and get excited about their final year of schooling.
We look forward to them embarking on their new roles as leaders and mentors to the Senior School student body.
Year 10 Work Experience
Throughout the week beginning Monday, 10 November, our Year 10 students completed a week of work experience. This was a wonderful chance for them to get a first-hand look at some of the industries that they may eventually like to work within.
For those students moving into Year 10 in 2026, a quick reminder that some of the best and most stimulating work experience places fill up very early in the year. If you have a dream placement that you would like to complete in 2026, make sure that you talk to your new Head of House early and obtain the necessary forms to send to your preferred employer.
Remembrance Day
Keysborough Senior School marked the day with a minute of silence in the Frank Elmore Chapel Forecourt.
Alea shines at Brain Bee Challenge
Earlier this year, Keysborough campus student Alea (Year 10), achieved an outstanding result in the Australian Brain Bee Challenge, placing second in the Victorian State Finals. After discovering a passion for neuroscience, Alea dedicated herself to independent study and collaborative practice with peers, and guidance from Ms Tahlia Chowdary and Ms Mia Haravitsidis. Her enthusiasm and persistence have seen her knowledge grow significantly. Building on this success, Alea has been invited to undertake a hybrid work experience placement in November at The Florey Institute and the University of Melbourne’s Centre for Youth Mental Health, where she will observe cutting-edge neuroscience research. In Term 1, 2026, Alea will lead a knowledge-sharing session for Years 8–9 students interested in the Brain Bee, sharing practical study strategies, resources and competition insights. We congratulate Alea and thank our partners in the neuroscience community.
Chess
On Tuesday, 14 October, Haileybury’s Senior School Chess team competed at the Victorian State Finals hosted by Brighton Grammar School. The chess team was performed strongly, coming in 2nd against 24 other teams from around the state. There was only a narrow margin of 0.5 points between the Haileybury team and the winners, Melbourne High. Congratulations to the top five players of the Haileybury team pictured above: Fred (C), Chloe (C), Rocky , Tiger and Ryley. A special congratulations to Chloe , who was awarded 2nd Best Female Player.

Sport
APS Athletics Day
Many people say that APS Athletics Day is their favourite day of the year and the sporting gods served up the most perfect weather for the 2025 event. My own PB for the day was to make sure I did not get as sunburnt as Mr Doran did in 2024, but after that, it was all about savouring this unique opportunity, which was to witness Haileybury athletes from all campuses and all ages coming together as part of a team, where every individual performance equally contributes to the overall goal of Hearts and Bloods success.
To witness Year 12 students so passionately cheering our Middle School athletes, and for Middle School students to rub shoulders with those older students that they aspire to become, is a truly unique event on the school calendar. With the support of Mr Mark Reed and Craig Mottram, who offer a best-in-class year-long training program, every student has the opportunity to train like an Olympian in preparation for this big stage.
And didn’t our team rise to the occasion! There were many individual highlights in the boys, with Archie (Year 11 Keysborough) winning all four of his events and Tairon (Year 12 Berwick) winning his fourth shot put title in a row, in addition to outstanding performances by Jett (Year 10 Berwick), Kai (Year 7 Berwick) and Cal (Year 7 Brighton).
However, it was the girls team that were stars of the day. I know I have not been here for long, but I am not sure we will see a better example of the team ethos that underpins the spirit of the Hearts. Although we did not win as many races as other schools, it was our consistency in competing in every race and accumulating points throughout the day that had us right in the mix at every update.
Never was this more personified than the last race of the day, when our girls in the Open 4 x 100m gallantly fought out for second position, which was ultimately enough for us to secure the title over Wesley. Not that we knew until the ceremony, when our leaders were nervously awaiting the official result.
I think that moment will be one that many remember for a long time as Haileybury was announced the winner of this prestigious event. No-one better represents everything we love about Haileybury sport than our Girls Sport Captain Angelia (Year 12 Keysborough) and to see the joy on her face as she accepted the cup was a true highlight. Special mention to Portia (Year 7 Berwick) who competed in seven events.
Haileybury students again starring for the Big V
Basketball
Basketball has one of the most competitive development programs in Victorian representative sport, so we are extremely proud to share the news that three of our First team players were awarded with selection in the Victorian teams for the U20 National Championships to be conducted in February.
Owen (Year 12 Keysborough) was selected to the main team after winning gold in 2025 with the U20 Navy team (development team).
Thomas (Year 12 Keysborough) has been selected in the main team. It is his first state team selection.
Nicholas (Year 12 Keysborough), our Schools Sports Captain, was selected to the Navy team. This is his first state selection since multiple back stress fractures sidelined him for a year in 2023. Nicholas won gold in 2022 with the U16 team.
Volleyball
It was extremely exciting to see Ben (Year 7 City) selected to represent the Big V in the Australian Youth Volleyball Competition (Nationals). After a week of competition, the team made it through to the final match and achieved a silver medal. Ben made an extremely valuable contribution to the team, which led to him being awarded the Coaches Award at the state volleyball awards dinner for most improved player during the season. This is an especially special achievement for the Haileybury volleyball program as Ben is the only state player who does not play club competition. Hockey Liam (Year 8 Keysborough) and Zoe (Year 7 Keysborough) were selected to represent Victoria at the U14 National Championships over the Term 3 holidays. Both Liam and Zoe already represent the school at First team level, as well as a number of other students from the Middle School, which is a great sign for the future of Hearts and Bloods Hockey.
National Swimming Championship
Yee (Year 6 Keysborough) was selected to represent Team Victoria at the 2025 School Sport Australia National Swimming Championships held in Ballarat. Yee competed in both individual and relay events and was delighted to win a bronze medal in the Boys 12-Year 100 Metre Backstroke.

CEO | Principal's Report - Issue 10

Rod Marshall Director of Performing Arts & Head of Haileybury Music

Early Learning Centre

Middle School
